Zeb and Flo
Aug. 19th, 2025 03:43 pmOnce upon a time Florence and Zebedee (though they were probably not called Florence and Zebedee back then) lived with some different humans. Given that both cats were confident and healthy, we can be pretty sure that the First Humans cared for them and treated them well. Then, for reasons we'll never know the First Humans moved away and left F&Z behind to fend for themselves in the garden. A kind neighbour rescued them and took them to a cat rescue, but the rescue was already full to capacity so they were passed on to Avon Cat Rescue, the lovely place from which we've been adopting cats since 1987.
We saw their pictures on line, their age (about 8 months) and sprang into action. We had to wait for them to be neutered, but once they'd recovered we could liberate them and bring them to their Forever Home.
I'm surprised how much younger they look in the early photos.

Florence was settled from the outset. She's a cat, she knows how that works; she's going to cat to the maximum and you cannot stop her. The only thing holding her back was having a tiny brother (about two thirds her size) with an extremely tiny brain. He needed a mother and she was the only one to do it. He was demanding and uncoordinated and over-excited. Florence was very patient, until she'd had Too Much, and had to resort to sitting on him or pushing him off the bed.

Zebedee was trouble. We despaired for a while and called him Spiky Demon Baby because he was all claws and demands for attention. He wanted cuddles and skritches at all times of the day and night and if he didn't get them immediately, he'd insist. With his claws. My arms were shredded, and both of us had scalp wounds. This was not good.

Florence has surprisingly blue(green) eyes.

Now that the cats are allowed to come and go as they please, and the weather is hot and dry, we don't see much of Florence. Some days it's a five minute visit for breakfast and another for tea and that's it. No cuddles, just 'hi' and 'kthxbye'.
To our great relief, and equally great surprise, the little boy has calmed down and turned into a cute homebody. His names have changed to Little Alien, Bendy Boi, and Mr Wriggly. He's weird, he likes being upsidedown, sometimes he falls off the bed, but he's adorable.

With his beloved rainbow, which he doesn't love any more.
