Writer's Block: Seven

Which of the seven deadly sins—sloth, greed, lust, gluttony, anger, envy, and pride—are you most likely to commit?

Lust :D, and then gluttony (mmmm foooood). I'm not very greedy, angry, envious, or prideful, but I do occasionally get some sloth in there. I'm not exceptionally slothful/lazy though, I work out a few times a week.

Also, as I was searching for jobs and internships and stuff, I discovered that Rutgers has two study abroad programs in Kenya 1 at Koobi Fora (paleoanthropology, homo habilis and such) and 1 studying primatology!!!! OMG!! I want to do one of these SO BAD. I would seriously take out another loan and be in debt up to my eyeballs if I could do this. The deadline is not until about April 1, so I would have time to apply for a loan before then right? One is mid-July to mid August and the other is the entire month of August. Seriously this is SO COOL. WHY did I not know about this until now???? I emailed them to find out exactly what I would need to do to be eligible for this because OMG SERIOUSLY THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME. I didn't even know something like this existed!
If this doesn't pan out, I also found some week-long forensic and osteology courses at UT-Knoxville (where they have the Body Farm) and a place in Pennsylvania, that cost the same amount and those would be pretty cool too. They are both in July as well. They are basically open until they fill up with 25 people, so that's the back-up plan.
Damn my stupid lack of monetary funding for these kinds of thing! My life would suck so much less if I wasn't so damn poor! (oops there's the envy and greed coming out I guess)

In other news,
Heroes was AWESOME Monday night. Seriously.
SpoilersCollapse )

PS The Heroes superbowl commercial where they are playing football against the NFL players is hilarious! If you haven't seen it, look it up on youtube.

School to do for the rest of this month:
2/11- Africana Studies quiz 2 (need to read ch 10 in African Americans book)
2/12- Research Simone de Beauvoir for Women's Studies
2/17- First exam in Cultural Geography on ch's 1-3
2/19- Midterm in Culture, Marriage and Family
- Also, First paper due in Women's studies
2/26- Midterm in Women's studies
Sometime in February, likely the week of 2/16-20, first exam in North American Indians

Ugh, business as usual I guess. I'm also researching jobs, internships, etc. as I said before, and working at my on-campus job, AND doing UPC and Anthro society stuff. Oh, and I have to take the GRE sometime before May. Hooray!

BTW, my women's studies paper is going to be epically amazing. I'm totally going to rock Dr. Albrecht's world. One of topics she gave us was "Choose several women's magazines and analyze the illustrations, ads, topics covered, and the texts. Draw conclusions about the assumptions the editors make about the audience of these magazines, that is, the women who buy and read them. Also consider the reasons why women buy these magazines."
My idea is to examine women's magazines targeted at different age groups. I picked Seventeen, Glamour, and Redbook to represent teenagers, 20's, and 30-40's, respectively. It really is amazing what you can decipher when you really look at these mags. The ads are very interesting... there are so many anti-aging creams even in Glamour, but especially in Redbook! It is also obvious who the magazines are targeted at by who they put on the cover (this month it is some chick from Gossip Girls on Seventeen, Eva Longoria on Glamour, and Julianne Moore on Redbook).

In other news, I think I've lost some more weight, according to the scale at the gym I have (it's telling me 167.something every time) but my scale at home is still saying 169-170. So I am unsure which to believe. It may also have to do with that I weigh at the gym in the morning when I finish working out and usually don't weigh at home except at night. Hmm... confusing! I personally don't feel any lighter, I've been a little slacking on my diet lately too, so I think the gym scale is lying to me. However, I have been doing crunches and stuff, and going to pilates once a week, so maybe that extra muscle is burning me some extra calories too. I dunno!

So that is about all for my update today!
See ya laterrrr

*is loving zombie!LJ*

I love Halloween at LJ because they always get creative with the top frame and this year it's zombies! Yay!
Actually, I love Halloween in general. I'm really excited that it is on Friday this year! Partay!!
My costume is Amy Winehouse. Yes, there will totes be pictures because my wig is ballin.

I am avoiding finishing some reading for class tomorrow by posting this. I will most likely regret that but don't really care.

I am kind of obsessed with Heroes now. Last weekend (not yesterday but the weekend before), I watched all of season 1 and 2 and finished watching season 3 last Thursday, so I caught my first "live" airing tonight and it was awesome. I am such an unabashed Peter/Claire fan now too... fictional incest FTW, right elohvee? :D (In my mind it's okay because they date in RL...) I am also kind of in love with Adrian Pasdar (Nathan) and Milo Ventimiglia (Peter) for having youtube channels of their own. Heroes has I guess replaced Lost for my top "weird ass show" after Lost got way TOO weird ass last season, esp. at the end. Well, at least until Doctor Who comes back anyway.

Just to let everyone know, you can get into Disney World free on your birthday in 2009. Man, I am so going... 21st at Disney may sound somewhat lame, but I am totally there. They have clubs and stuff, if you didn't know, it's called Pleasure Island. Plus I will be all gradumacated by then (hopefully...) so I won't have to miss school or anything since my birthday is in the middle of a week.

I really really REALLY miss Europe like, hardcore and I am trying to make it back next summer (also after graduation) so if anyone wants to donate to the Yay Kaylin Made It Out of College, Help Nao Plz? fund please feel free to do so. ;) (mostly kidding, but if you want to send me a graduation present I won't turn it down!)

Also, I am contemplating what I want to do with my life after I graduate and I want to move out of Alabama ASAP. I'm not really picky as to where. If I could move to Europe permanently I would. I'm still contemplating doing a BUNAC program, although their Work In Britain program is on hold indefinitely while the US and UK governments work out a new dealio. However, there's still Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and France (and probably some more that I'm forgetting), each for different periods of time, ranging from 4mo to 1 year. I think my mom would probably freak out if I was in another country for a whole year, considering how much she freaked out this past summer when I was in france for a MONTH, but she would just have to deal, honestly. I'm for serious getting the hell outta dodge, for good, if we don't elect Obama.

Sorry if this was TL;DR but if you made it this far comment and I will send you love and a virtual cookie! <3

Yes, I do use the Sawyer/Kate dancing icon for every post I make about dancing

RHA formal pics are up at flipflopfoto.com, and they are pretty darn snazzy! (sorry for stealing your word, Becca) I'm sure most of you could pick me out of a crowd anyway, but just in case: I'm the tall pale girl in a purple dress. I'm in quite a few of the pictures, but I honestly have no idea what I'm doing in about half of them, lol. I'm totally ordering a bunch of these, they're really awesome (my fav is this one --isn't the macarena fabulous?? ;))

In other news, Dinner and Dancing was awesome tonight! Met some new people in Tech while setting up, got to look cool in my gauchos, and danced swing to salsa music (Carlos didn't show up until 8:30 and all the people I knew there only knew swing, it was sad). BUT! Once Carlos arrived, I got my weekly flinging around by him, haha, for about 10 minutes. I was exhausted by the end, those salsa songs are really long! Alas, poor Carlos had his cell phone stolen, and by BOY SCOUTS of all people!

My feet hurt because I was dumb enough to walk all the way from my dorm to Foy in heels (and not bring any backup shoes), and that's a good 10-minute walk, uphill about halfway too. Then I had to walk back to the dorm too, and I ended up walking barefoot most of the way (thank god for sidewalks, I don't want a foot disease from walking barefoot in the dirt). Just in case any of you RL people would like to know, the elevator in Foy? Verrah sketchy, should avoid at all costs in case you come to Auburn. Alas, it is the only way to get the equipment to and from the 3rd floor UPC office...

I want to apply for an assistant director position on UPC for next year. I think it would be really really awesome to be assistant films director, because I have really enjoyed being on films committee this year. Brad (films committee director) said I was the most consistent member of the films committee in terms of coming to meetings and stuff, which made me all happy.

I'm planning to spend about 4 hours in the library tomorrow, probably 12-4ish. I have this annotated bibliography thing due in English on Wednesday, and also a test in my Textile class on Wed. too, soooo... yeah. Not so fun. Also, have films meeting tomorrow at 6. Not entirely sure what we'll be discussing, probably just our showing of HPGoF next week, but I'll be able to get an application for the council position, so yayness.

Update time!

So, I had a History test today, which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, therefore am hoping for A or at the least B; will know Friday. Got my Consumer Culture test back yesterday, and YAY B!!! Totally thought I screwed myself over with that test. Also have a test Friday in Psychology which shouldn't be too hard but I really need to finish reading in my textbook and go over my notes. Shall do that tonight (BEFORE LOST CAUSE OMGNEWLOSTTONIGHTEEE), because tomorrow is the review session with the TA's and also free outdoor movie! (Batman Begins, for anyone interested)

I have two more classes today (ugh), Psych and Self-defense. Psych is in an hour and self-defense is right after that about half a mile away which I have to walk to and try not to get run down by crazy people in black trucks.

I will have to take a nap in between studying and Lost I guess, or perhaps before studying and Lost. Therefore, I probably won't be online much tonight unless I'm in the Lost Chat on AIM going OMGWTFLOST for an hour. Feel free to IM me lots after Lost to OMGWTFLOST with me.

Hopefully, I can kick roommate out while I watch Lost tonight, or at least get her to not use the phone. I am allowed to do that because she was all "shh!!" during The OC.

So, um, yes. I have a wonderfully exciting life, don't I?
