Earth Hour

Sooooooooo. What's everyone doing for Earth Hour tonight?

I'm even going to shut off the laptop and the modem and the router.

SHOCKING I KNOW.

I'll be twitching by 9:00. ;)

Oh, yeah. I forgot about that. What time are we supposed to do that? Because a movie I want to watch comes on at nine.:)

Ahhh...we can probably do the lights out part (except if we have to use the bathroom because it doesn't have a window, and I'd probably break my neck).

Do you know if that's 8:30 PM EST, or what?

We're going to do what we can, but it may be tricky with a little girl who's scared of the dark in the house... but we can at the very least minimize.

Maya, a bit. I went with nightlights. It was all good. :)

it is 8:30 local time, and it is "turn off all non-essential lights" so it sounds like you have a very essential issue for some light. Candles are recomended (but not ideal for small children.)

Does this mean that I shouldn't go out in the golf cart? It's far more economical than the minivan.

I'll probably be working on the laptop, with at least some of the lights going so that I can see the keys.

I'm looking at my electrical meter before 8:30 pm and then turning off everything I can including vamp power strips. Then going to look again at the meter. Just a little experiment tied to earth hour. :)

Meditation is on my list for the hour.

I ideally will be doing my pre-bedtime meditation by then, which doesn't require electricity :-p

I will shut down my laptop before i head off to knit

Got appliances unplugged (which I've been meaning to do for awhile) and candles set up. I have an insane amount of tea lights, which are hanging out in juice glasses. Now I just need to figure out what books I want to read/if I want to doodle or write for the hour.

And, yeah, I'll be switching the modem and router off, too.

ETA I'm wishing it wasn't raining. I'd love to see how the stars look with so many people switching off lights. Though I suspect all the street lights and such will remain on. There's a car dealership nearby that's simply GLARING with bright halogen.

Was hoping to spend it stargazing, but it seems that the sky is kind of hazy overcast, and our town isn't cool enough to turn out the damn streetlights, which are the main source of light polution, so visibility hasn't improved as I hoped it might.

Sooo, dunno. Sit around on the internet or read something by candlelight I guess.

I was fixing my computer and watching March Madness, is that close? :)

Poo, I would've totally done this except I didn't know it was happening. I wasn't home during that hour, so there was no active electrical usage. I just wish I'd known so I could've turned off my porch light.
