Thank God Fox have picked up the "Narnia" series - "the trailer for "Dawn Treader" looks awesome -- and the kids are all looking so grown up now! :) I'm excited again.

Speaking of excited, how good is the new "Doctor Who" series? I've still not seen every episode but even starting from mid-series, the story arc involving the mysterious crack in the universe is fascinating. Kinda "Bad Wolf"-ish, but perhaps even more sinister. Companion Amy is a real breath of fresh air, and very normal - we all know someone like Amy. Plus, Moffat's really amped up his study of the Doctor's sexuality, or lack of, which he arguably began in "The Doctor Dances" in 2005. Why do I get the feeling that there may be something significant to come as regards this in the series finale? It's all about the "Pandorica", and the Pandora of myth and legend was the first woman - and notorious to boot. As it says in Hesiod (nicked from "Wikipedia"):

live amongst mortal men to their great trouble,
no helpmates in hateful poverty, but only in wealth.

Yes, we are a troublesome lot, aren't we? XD LOL. It was a woman, i.e. Rose, who both saved and destroyed the ninth Doctor. Maybe there's more woman trouble yet to come? (Or not - I might be totally off here. But guessing is fun.) There's a lot of debate over teh interwebz, but I'm avoiding it in case of spoilers, which always manage to creep out.

And speaking of the Doctor's descent into increasing domesticity, which the Doctor has arguably been running from for a long time, weren't there some wonderfully "domestic" scenes of the Doctor trying to be normal in last week's episode, "The Lodger"? I totally loved it (and the Doc' said his "don't spend it all on sweets" line - you don't know how much that repeated Nine-line made me squee!). He's adorable - I like Eleven so much. There are flashes of all the Doctors in him, and yet he's something all of his own, too. :) I do feel more like I have my old Doctor back with him.

Bring on teh "Who" tonight! Woop woop!

You know, I feel really guilty about saying this, but having Davy Jones back might make me a bit more excited about a fourth Pirates film. I like the character of Davy Jones. It makes no sense to bring him back at all, but hey, we're beyond caring about sense in these films, aren't we? I don't think they've ever added up. There are enough gaping plot holes and contrivances to sail an armada through. :D I'd still be happier if they *weren't* doing another one, but if they are - and there's no stopping the money-eating monster that is Disney - then I dare say they'll want as many big names in that cast list as they can get. Whether they'll take Nighy back is another matter, but he's clearly keener than I would have expected.

And did you hear that Disney have pulled out of the Narnia films? Apparently the $400+ million that Prince Caspian made wasn't enough - especially compared to the $700+ million Lion, Witch & Wardrobe scooped. So Walden Media has been unceremoniously abandoned and left to find new partners for the third film, Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I'm sure someone will take up where Disney left off, but it does leave one feeling rather disappointed in this family entertainment company where it backs off at the slightest wane in profit. (What did they expect with Caspian anyway? The first Narnia book is the best - the other books fail in comparison, and their movie adaptations are ill-likely to surpass the first tale.) Disney's move makes even less sense when one considers how many worthless sequels and prequels to all their classic movies they are still producing and selling to the public. I'm not sure they have their priorities right, and I'm certainly not convinced that Walt Disney would be happy with his namesake company if he could see it now.

But that's life, right?

Watched The Golden Compass yesterday - does anyone else think that film is a real disappointment? It doesn't grab me or anything - I don't care about anyone and it's a shame because the book's not half bad! Ah well - maybe should have watched a different film on Christmas day!

I had a really cool Xmas - got some nice prezzies (my penpal bought me the cutest Count Dooku figure! One of those fat, cute ones! He's fab and fills me with Lee-love!), and I also ate some lovely food. I watched my new Prince Caspian DVD last night, too, and enjoyed it very muchly! The story itself isn't as good as "The Lion, Witch & Wardrobe", but it's a competent and engaging adaptation - I liked it lots. (I also got a little cupid charm in one of my crackers at dinner and he bears a striking resemblance to Geoffrey! It's so funny! Even my sister mentioned it! I'll have to take a photo of my cupid-Geoffy charm.) I also got a new little bag which I think will be coming to New York! Yay! Next stop: sales for nice schtuff to wear!

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and are enjoying Boxing Day (if you have Boxing Day!). Dead Man's Chest is on BBC1 tonight after Disney's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (with crappy Eastenders in between) - I'm sorted for films this evening! :D (They even credited Geoffrey for his 30 seconds or so as Barbossa in the "Radio Times" TV listings magazine! Go RT! Geoffy is worth crediting for every second he's on-screen. Hee.)

I did something fairly productive last night - I did drawings! One sketch was for my Barbossabeth fic, and it's based on the ending I've planned, so I can't really show anyone unless I want to spoil the story. Why I had to draw something I need to keep to myself is beyond me. I've also nearly finished the commission of a Belgian Tervueren I need to do. I'm not sure how close to the actual dog it looks - it's hard to judge when you're drawing these things and staring at the same page for hours. If I can get it scanned I might post it here so you can tell me if it's close to the photo or not. I don't want to ask for money for something which isn't accurate.

I've got an idea for a sketch, too - no idea why, but I want to draw Tia Dalma with Barbossa after the end of CotBP, bringing him back to life. I just have this picture in my head of what I want to draw. It's not shippy, as such, but I suppose it could be. I just really want to draw it. Impulse is a strange thing.

My Narnia DVD arrived today!!! God it makes me cry... Poor Aslan on the Stone Table. It's when Lucy starts stroking his face that I really break down - it's such a low-key moment, but it's so moving! And that battle scene! Whoah! Don't you love that bit where those two griffins pirouette in the sky then dive-bomb at the White Witch? The movement on them is incredible! I love so many bits of the battle, I couldn't possibly list them all... It's just amazing. I don't know how they did it. And I *do* love Rupert Everett's Mr. Fox - what a gentlemanly and stereotypically "British" character. *sigh* It's really good fun - I love that film. I still have the book waiting to be read. And the video game to finish.

I've been offered a p/t job at somewhere near York, too, at a boarding/show kennel. I'm not sure whether I'll be able to have the job, since it would be far more convenient if I could drive, but if that hurdle can be overcome, I might be off over there for a few months. I've found out that they breed Basset Fauve de Bretagne, Wire-Haired Dachshunds and Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizslas - the latter of which I certainly admire. It'd be great if I could have the job, even for a little while, because the experience would be priceless. If I don't, then learning to drive is going to become a priority on my to-do list. I'm nervous about it, but if so many of the idiots at work can do it, I'm sure I can. :D Heh. And any future career might depend on it.

Forget Goblet of Fire, this year's book-to-movie-adaptation must-see is from C.S. Lewis' land of Narnia! I've been to see The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe today and it well and truly rocks! Beautiful to look at, with a wonderful musical score, amazing CGI creatures, and some pretty good acting. Two thumbs up.

Go see it! And take your tissues... it's a weepy one.

I might say more tomorrow... I'm just too tired now...

I'm so excited about seeing "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" that I'm scaring myself now. *bounces* And I start work tomorrow at 7 am! Oh, the inhumanity... ;)
