X-Men: Balls of Steel

Movie Fest!

OMG, there's like PotC4 *AND* X-Men: First Class to see at the cinema now!!! Eeee!!! Can't really afford to see both but... I need to! Housemates are up for PotC... might have to go X-Men alone. :( But some things have to be done.

In the meantime... there's the Doctor Who mid-season finale to look forward to! My respect for Steven Moffat has not faltered yet - he is a genius and the show is amazing. Can't wait to see what's in store tonight, and no doubt we will be left with an unbearable cliffhanger. When does the rest of the series air, anyone know?

At least there's good stuff going on to help distract me from the fact my car was broken into the night before last. :( My satnav was taken. I think they'd actually broken-in for the stereo since that was the only thing "on show", and they'd had a bloody good go at getting it out but, ha ha, stereo security was too good and they failed with that. They were just lucky I'd been a twat and left my satnav in the glove box. Meh. The weird thing is there's no evidence the locks have been tampered with, no windows were put-through or forced... it's scary. And the scariest bit is that they locked the car again afterwards! I mean, WTF? *sigh* If this was Ankh-Morpork, I would at least have received a receipt... :P

I'm not doing well with Walsie-car this year. My back window was smashed in March, now he's been robbed... Things happen in threes, so what's next?

Reverse the Polarity of the Neutron Flow!!

Eee! "Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow"! I squeed when the Doctor said that.

Didn't see the twist at the end until it came - very well done that man! We should have some interesting stuff in store for us next week in the mid-season finale. (How cruel, giving us half a series! It'll end with an awful cliff-hanger, I just know it.)

And I can think of some good uses for those "flesh" doubles. *waggles eyebrows* Ho yes. Can I place an order for one...? XD

Now...Really.Must.Draw so I can go back to doodling That Man. I've got 2 or 3 hours before I need to get my head down. Let's see how much of this final dog commission I can get done... *rubs hands together* A chance to draw il Briggso before the end of the evening depends on lots of progress. And damn it, I *really* want to draw him... it'll be my reward for actually doing what I've been paid to do first. :P

Doctor Whoop!

Doctor Who was pretty good tonight. Collapse ) Moffat's DW FTW!

(WTF's going on with that show before Doctor Who, though? "Don't Scare The Hare"? Are we paying for shit like that with our TV licenses? FAIL.)

Also... I got my tickets for "The Man Who Was Thursday" today! Eep! This time next week, I'll be watching the STC perform. Whoop! Well excited! :D

Doctor Who! So good! LOVE YOUR WRITING, STEVEN MOFFAT! YOU ROCK! I'm not even gonna talk about the episode... just bask in the afterglow of "propa gud Sat'day night tele". :D I will say that I squeed a bit when the Doctor mentioned the "oblong room" when he was in the Oval Office. Such a sweet lil in-joke (which perhaps isn't even meant to be there) for all Discworld fans.

We've had thunder and lightning tonight. After the warm weather, we needed it. Phoenix has been hiding his cowardly self pretty much under my bed. He's such a pansy. My housemates and I had planned a BBQ but we had to retire indoors because the rain started pretty much as soon as the BBQ was lit. Typical!

... I forgot to mention I had an amazing dream of Amazingness the other night. Unfortunately, as is always the case, I woke up at that vital moment where, had the dream continued, I probably wouldn't have wanted to wake up ever. But it was a perfect dreamy dream. I love my brain sometimes. It's sense of timing is atrocious, though.

And... here's some art:

The more I look at my widdle Oberon, the more I think that he looks like he's doing a striptease. I'm tempted to continue with it. ;p (Oh how very naughty of me...)

I appear to have lost quite a few userpics on LJ after yesterday's "crash" - anyone else got this problem?

Anywayz, more artwork: here's Chibi Oberon + Puck in shoddy digi-colour! :D

And in other news... OMG, have you seen the new series trailer for Doctor Who?! I worship at Steven Moffat's feet - he's taken Who to the next level and it looks like S6 is going to be scary, dark, and utterly amazing. Matt Smith is a wonderful Doctor and looking to become more reminiscent of my personal fave, Nine. I'm sure the line everyone's remembering from the trailer is his reference to killing all the Time Lords. Kinda chilling. And very ninth Doctor. :) Just bring it!

Snow Day! (And general catch-up)

Well, I'm at home today because for the first time I think ever, I've been snowed in. And it's not for lack of trying that I've wound up with a day off work - I actually got up early and de-snowed my car and everything! - I just couldn't persuade it to reverse off the driveway! Madness. I've never seen snow this bad in the UK before. It's a foot deep in places, more in some cases! I think many people will have stayed at home today.

At least it's given me time to be productive and get on with some commissioned sketches!

Last weekend was the Discworld Hogswatch event down at Wincanton in Somerset. It was my first time going down there and it was a very long drive, but it was worth it. It was snowy when I got there and very cold so there was certainly a festive feel to the whole thing, and it was great to meet up with the friends I made at the last convention, as well as making a few new acquaintances. I do seem to be fighting with this massive crush I've got on Stephen Briggs again which got ten times worse because, I think, I only saw him for about 20 seconds all weekend. If I hadn't seen him at all, I would have been disappointed but okay, and if I'd got to spend time with him, I may have been placated, but the 20 second "howdy" was all I got and my body's being a bitch about it. Apparently there's a term called "crushstration", which I certainly have right now. Need to get the hammer out and knock it back into line. Bloody crushes... It's a good crush, but it's a rather strong one.

And on the way home from Wincanton, I stopped off at Stonehenge since it was en route. It was bloody freezing but cool to finally see it for real. (The Doctor was, however, no where to b seen... Heheh.)

I'm still a bit out of touch on the Rush front. I've heard that the first trailer for the next Pirates movie will be making an appearance with the new Tron film. I'm very much looking forward to seeing The King's Speech when it finally emerges on general release, too.

Saying that, I've still not seen the new Harry Potter film! It'll have to wait until the snow goes so I can make it to the cinema safely! Who's been and is it good?
Who: Nine - What's a Time Lord to do?

Whovian MindF*ck!

I need to watch last night's Doctor Who again - besides the fact my picture quality was rubbish (got really poor BBC signals at the moment), it's an episode that needs some study, methinks. I feel like we're coming full circle from the first of the new series, though Collapse )

Oh, questions, questions, questions...

Well, this finale is certainly the most thought-provoking to date. Series one had suspense and tension in bucket loads, but this is kinda suspense plus intrigue. And we've got a whole week to wait to find out how it ends. (Is this the first second-to-last episode with no "next time" preview? Damn them!)

And tomorrow -- I start new job! Eek!
Who: Eleven & Amy (Black and White)

Squee! (Fan Rambles...)

Thank God Fox have picked up the "Narnia" series - "the trailer for "Dawn Treader" looks awesome -- and the kids are all looking so grown up now! :) I'm excited again.

Speaking of excited, how good is the new "Doctor Who" series? I've still not seen every episode but even starting from mid-series, the story arc involving the mysterious crack in the universe is fascinating. Kinda "Bad Wolf"-ish, but perhaps even more sinister. Companion Amy is a real breath of fresh air, and very normal - we all know someone like Amy. Plus, Moffat's really amped up his study of the Doctor's sexuality, or lack of, which he arguably began in "The Doctor Dances" in 2005. Why do I get the feeling that there may be something significant to come as regards this in the series finale? It's all about the "Pandorica", and the Pandora of myth and legend was the first woman - and notorious to boot. As it says in Hesiod (nicked from "Wikipedia"):

From her is the race of women and female kind:
of her is the deadly race and tribe of women who
live amongst mortal men to their great trouble,
no helpmates in hateful poverty, but only in wealth.

Yes, we are a troublesome lot, aren't we? XD LOL. It was a woman, i.e. Rose, who both saved and destroyed the ninth Doctor. Maybe there's more woman trouble yet to come? (Or not - I might be totally off here. But guessing is fun.) There's a lot of debate over teh interwebz, but I'm avoiding it in case of spoilers, which always manage to creep out.

And speaking of the Doctor's descent into increasing domesticity, which the Doctor has arguably been running from for a long time, weren't there some wonderfully "domestic" scenes of the Doctor trying to be normal in last week's episode, "The Lodger"? I totally loved it (and the Doc' said his "don't spend it all on sweets" line - you don't know how much that repeated Nine-line made me squee!). He's adorable - I like Eleven so much. There are flashes of all the Doctors in him, and yet he's something all of his own, too. :) I do feel more like I have my old Doctor back with him.

Bring on teh "Who" tonight! Woop woop!

♥ New-New Who

Grace ♥ Steven Moffat's Doctor Who & Matt Smith's Doctor (have just watched "Cold Blood" - t'was good!).

*But* Grace is rather surprised that there's now swearing in the show! WTF? :/ It doesn't bother me, but I'm sure parents of young children might be rather upset by that...

I'm entering a couple of competitions to win goodies from Doctor Who Magazine and am quite amused that I have to write at the top of one envelope, above the address, "PRISONER ZERO WILL VACATE THE HUMAN RESIDENCE OR THE HUMAN RESIDENCE WILL BE INCINERATED", and on the other "ANYTHING ELSE HE'S GOT TWO OF?" Can't say they don't have a sense of humour!
