Double-Stabbed!

Wahoo, I am now doubled jabbed for Covid! I brought my 2nd vacc appointment forward since, in the UK, we're being encouraged to get double-whammied as quickly as possible so you can get your 2nd jab from 8 weeks after your 1st rather than 12. I had the worst fever side effects to this 2nd one, though, I had none of this the first time around; I was hot, I was cold, I ached, my teeth chattered. Insanity. I am feeling better today but it's been a tough one since Wednesday, when I had my jab. At least it's all done now. Apparently, at present, they know that the vaccine gives one at least 9 months of immunity so I may have to prepare myself to do it all again next year! But until then, let's hope it helps.

I bought myself a Geoffy photo still from the House on Haunted Hill as a reward for myself since I did not faint at either appointment, either - but big thanks to the nursing team for letting me lay flat when I had my jab just incase. I can never predict when I might faint after jabs, 8 out of 10 times I'd say I'm ok, but it's not fun if it does happen so better to have me prostrate just incase.

I have also, since Wednesday, began a strict regime of weaning myself off my smartphone addiciton. I realised, checking my phone's activity tracker earlier this week, that I spend waaaay too much time on it, and alot of it is meaningless scrolling. It's made my concentration worse as well for reading, drawing, writing, and it's just become an almost stereotypical displacement behaviour to keep picking it up and checking it. So enough is enough. I have built myself a regime, tied an elastic band around my phone to remind myself, and am instead concentrating on filling the gaps in my time with reading or doing my puzzle or even watching TV without also scrolling on my phone. I have deleted Twitter from my phone and I don't miss it tbh, Facebook has been gone for a while - I only aim to check those sites on my laptop - but I still have Tumblr and IG on my phone, but my relationship with them is much healthier. For the past 2 days, fever nonwithstanding, it hasn't been as hard as I thought to not use my phone or have it nearby - though I think the sheer shock at the amount of time I wasted on my phone has helped - and I've read 2 books in the past 3 days which is great for my yearly reading challenge and at least feels more productive than filliing my time with aimless scrolling. If I am unable to relax and do nothing - which I generally am - at least I can try to clear my bookshelf rather than cycle through the same 4 apps over and over!

Well, I've run out of time! And there’s only one Geoffrey sketch for me to post on this special day, a sketch of the role I love above all his others, the performance that drove me into a different leg of the trousers of time: it’s Francis Walsingham from Elizabeth (1998), of course! (One of my fellow Rushies, lovely apple4b, referred to me as “walsie girl” back in the day and it stuck - or I adopted it!)

I am having a massive sort out, particularly a book cull (and attempted DVD cull). I will definitely need to move house again soon and books were the worst thing to move last time, so damn heavy and I just have too many. I am pretty much giving up all my Discworld books, my Percy Jackson books and myriad others. There's some books I've had for 10 even 15 years and never read so... off to charity or MusicMagpie/Ziffit they go! (I found an insane one about Richard III I picked up in like 2004 or something which is aggressively negative about him, I think I shall have to do a drunk read of it.)

I am also insanely pleased that Morrisons have started leaving out empty fruit boxes for people to take, they stopped doing it for a while. They are the best boxes for books when moving house, super strong -- and the best bit is they're free!

GR Sketch-a-thon: 11 and 12

Whoops, forgot to post my previous sketch here too so there's a double-whammy of sketches in this post! And I am soooo running out of time on this challenge of mine. I need to try to find time to do a sketch literally every other day to try to cover as many more roles as I can before July 6th... It's not looking promising.

And all my previous sketches in the “Countdown to Geoffrey Rush’s Big 7-0″ so far are:

Who's next? Who knows! I realise I have yet to do either Barbossa or my beloved Wals, but there are still so many I've not done. Have to put names in a hat to chose the next one...

Once again I have forgotten to update my journal!

Well, I've decided to take a break from writing for a week or two as my brain has imploded and needs a rest. I still have lots of ideas and drafts for my fic which has at times been all-consuming. I know where everything’s going but I think I need to just... not write for a little while. It'll help me recharge.

The fact we’re very short staffed again at work is not helping (is it always a thing wherever one works to be short staffed?? Like, the turnover of staffing everywhere I have ever worked never ceases to amaze me...) Long story short, I can’t keep on top of my day-job-stuff so I keep doing the computer bit of my job at home, which I shouldn’t be doing, but I don’t want to fall behind with it. So... I am not unhappy, just a bit frazzled. I have a few extra days off this weekend (Hatfield House visit on Sunday! w00t!) so that will let me breathe. And maybe I can then stay on top of my shit. I need to learn some time management.

Also, random note, you know how Tumblr tells you when someone has used your gifs? Like someone used my really bad quality Mary of Guise gifs (from the "Elizabeth" movie) on a totally unrelated post, but it’s made my brain go “ooo, let’s draw Wals and Mary together!” and I’m like “brain yes I’d love to, but I can’t right now.... unless you haven’t noticed we’re a little busy at the moment”.

Anyway, how is everyone? ^^;

Accidentally tired myself out today when I wasn't full of energy to begin with - sorted my garden, lots of branches to trim, then went to the shops to get some fruit, veg and also get my garden birds more seed and to get a sheet to cover the boot of my car, then got home, loaded all 5 bags of garden waste into the car plus an old tv stand and the fridge that stopped working last week (I don't know how but I managed to carry that fridge to my car), did a tip run, all with that slight anxiety of wondering if any bugs will emerge from the bags of garden waste on the way, then got back home again.

This follows on my jaunt to Grantham yesterday after I went to see my parents in Lincoln: I saw a bargain bookcase on eBay, made a cheeky offer, won it, and thought "fuck it, let's get it on the way home!" So bit of a detour in driving rain but got me a £17 120cm tall pine bookshelf to fill with my piles of books. Can't even get a shelf for that at price in Ikea!

Now I have 7 consecutive days of work to face and I am not looking forward to it, especially because I offered to cover the shifts starting at 7:30am on the weekend. 😬 Maybe I shall doodle more of my Scout!Wals this evening then hit the sack...

Holiday plans

I have recently come back from a few nights in Heacham near Hunstanton in NW Norfolk, had a great lil break doing lots of walking, bird watching, and reading my book on the beach.

Naturally, though, the first thing I thought about when I came back was "Hmm, so when am I going away again?" So today I booked lots of holiday dates in today at work and I have over a week off in October so NORTHUMBERLAND IS HAPPENING! \o/ The Elizabeth movie location pilgrimage will continue from a base near Bamburgh, with of course another stop off at Durham Cathedral on the way up to Northumbria, and hopefully a visit to Raby Castle either on the way up the country or back down again. I need to get plenty of pennies saved for all the petrol and castle entry fees. I have National Trust membership and can get into English Heritage places free thanks to my trusty Cadw membership so that may help a little.

I am soooo excited. Northumberland has been on my radar a while but both the pandemic and its distance away from my home have made it not very feasible. Hopefully pandemic-wise things will be looking up by October, and I do at least have the time booked to do it all at a leisurely pace.

On that note, my poor Cadw card has had no use for months thanks to the pandemic so whenever Wales opens again, maybe I can squeeze in some trips there as well. So many castles, so little time.

So UK lockdown rules have relaxed slightly from today. I'm not at work, but I have resolved not to go anywhere anyway as I dread how busy it’s likely to be. Also I'm waiting for a parcel which I was told could be delivered any time between 11:45 and 15:45 — as it's already nearly 3pm, I imagine the latter of that estimate is going to be correct. I can guarantee if I'd nipped out earlier though it would have come sooner. It's a new mobile phone as my old one is holding charge for shorter and shorter times, and technology has also moved on a lot in the 2+ years ago that I bought it so I just fancied an upgrade. I'll definitely recycle my old one.

Anyway, since I've had to stay put, I have filled my time by writing a short, smutty fic which is sort of a pastiche of the season 1 finale from "The Tudors", but re-imagined with my Elizabeth-1998-Walsibeth OTP. (Y'know the final scene where Henry and Anne ride into the woods for a sexy tryst but it ends in frustration and dissatisfaction? Well Wals and Bess could teach them some lessons...Lol.)

I've started to follow a diet and exercise plan recently just to shed a few pounds that have piled up and try to tone up a bit and I am so hungry this week. After several days of probably being in a calorie deficit and managing to lose some weight, I'm having a takeaway tonight to undo my good work. Back to the plan tomorrow! 😏

I've also ordered myself a new phone for the first time in over 2 years. I'm having issues with this one charging and the internet on it can be slow so I think I'm due an upgrade!
