this is such a well polished and charming game for just a week long gamejam, it plays very well and all of the animation and music is great. its fun to play, although i honestly didnt know how to beat the boss as it seems even when i was hitting it and it was turning red and visibly being damaged the health bar wouldnt go down. spinning a wheel for your weapon is really fun and they are all pretty good, i love the one which just throws dolphins.
anyway, definitely one of the most well made games in the jam and im very surprised it only has 8 votes. probably because you cant play it in the browser but even then, deserves a lot more
ok I really liked this one. It was so much fun. But unfortunately I was not able to find a way to damage the boss so I could not complete the game
Omg this is amazing, really good use of the theme, nice art, nice music, nice weapons, this is very very cool and funny!
The game automatically gets a 5 star for seriousness because this is definitely the funniest one I've seen by far. Great ending, but inevitable because THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS.
I have lots of feedback for this game because I genuinely liked the gameplay a lot, and I feel a bit betrayed by how quickly it ended.
What you did well:
The story is extremely funny, I don't know why I find it funny but it just is.
Being able to gamble mid-fight using your earned money and I'm assuming the luck stat to get different and better weapons mid-fight is extremely genius and I'm not sure why other games aren't doing something similar.
Having it so only certain weapons can kill the boss forces you to target minions and try out more than 1 weapon, and additionally giving limited boss-damaging ammo is also a fantastic way of balancing strong weapons.
I like the music.
The bullets hitting enemies and the boss are satisfying.
My suggestions for you:
There is a bug in your game regarding the full screen. I'm not sure if this happens with anyone else but if I exit full screen then re-enter full screen with f4 my game will crash. I know why this happens since I also use GameMaker. You have to make it so any time you're running draw functions or full screen functions etc. that you first use an if statement: " if surface_exists(application_surface) = true " then your draw/full screen code.
It appears that the player can't die? I didn't fully test it but I didn't see me having a health bar and I didn't see any consequences of getting hit.
This game could go down the path of being a story game or an endless game (or both with enough time. I highly recommend you consider expanding on it.
Have powerups or some sort of collectibles spawn around to encourage the player to explore your map more.
The boss' spawn could be delayed since it seems that he just immediately joins the room with the player.
Definitely more UI things like damage numbers to see how good your weapons are and if they're doing anything.
Overall, great job! This game has a nice charm to it and I honestly like it a lot.
This was a really charming and creative game. The cute art style, animations, story, and overall groovy vibe made it stand out a lot. I also liked the variety in the attacks/projectiles, it gave the combat some fun chaos and personality.
My main feedback is that the boss health/damage feedback could be clearer. At times it felt like I wasn’t doing much damage, so it was hard to tell if my attacks were working. Some coins also seemed like they could end up in awkward spots, and the boss i-frames made some of the stronger attacks feel less satisfying than they could have been. Still, this was a fun and unique entry with a lot of charm. Great work!
Definitely one of the most creative games in the jam. It's a charming little game with cute animations and a groovy theme. My main gripe is that I felt that I was dealing no damage to the boss no matter what. Still, it's good fun and well done on making this.
That was an error I noticed after uploading. The health bar actually shows less health than the actual boss health so It takes 200 damage to start noticing the damage in the health bar! Still, thanks for taking your time to try it 🙇♂️
Loving the cute art style! My only gripe is that sometimes coins would get into unreachable places. Regardless, I can tell a lot of effort was put into this, so great job!
YES! That was a problem since the early days. My solution was make the coins go slowly towards the player. But sometimes is too slow to be helpful. Thanks for the feedback!
This is a great game. I loved the story. My only criticism is that there is maybe a touch too much hitstop and the big boss shouldnt have I-frames after getting hit. Often I would spam him with the supers but in reality its much better to shoot once then wait for his I-frames then shoot again which kinda limited the fun of using those moves. This was a great time tho I liked the variety in projectiles a lot (there wasnt really much spinning. it would have been fun to watch the weapon wheal spin and land on a new weapon)
Also i think you can edit your itch page still today so I would recommend adding a web version and many more people will be able to play it because a lot of people are wary about downloading exe files
I'll keep that in mind for future jams. Due to time restrictions this wasn't the exact vision I had for the game 😓. Thanks for the feedback!
