Right then. Lets get things started, shall we? I'm omi, your
Lord and Master Moderator. Lovely to meet all of you whom I don't already know. ^^ Mouse is my second in command with no official job other than to be bloody awesome and to do PR work. She's the one that goes out and does lots of pimping for the community. Also, she is the wonderfulness that made
our site. Yay for Mouse! *luv*
Now then, a bit of background information.
It's 1996, Harry Potter's sixth year. Or, at least, it would be. If Harry hadn't died.
Over the summer Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters grew bold and started slaughtering people left and right, though there was little to no press on it. Muggle-borns, half-bloods purebloods... no one was safe. Slowly they hacked their way through the Wizarding world until an oddly warm night in early September when they brought their final attack upon Hogwarts castle.
Dozens died. Hundreds were wounded.
Most of the younger years were smart enough to stay in their common rooms as they'd been instructed. Some were not so wise. In the end, the grounds outside of Hogwarts was littered with bodies; man, woman, and child alike. There was no differentiation between the Good and the Bad, noseparation of Houses. There were only bodies and an oddly small amount of blood for a battle field.
But the true battle had been small, private. Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort faced each other alone in what had once been the Great Hall. And in the end, age came before beauty, and the Boy Who Lived was no more.
The surviving Death Eaters chased the Hogwarts defenders out and took over the castle. Some students remained. Some fled. The Death Eaters took over Hogwarts castle and claimed it for their own. Dumbledore and his followers were scattered throughout the country, though large groups cluster themselves in Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley, though the latter still caters towards the Darker magics. Some even venture into Hogsmeade where shops are still kept by their owners: as long as said owners are in compliance with the new Lord.
Both sides have their spies and their double-agents. Some who were once so adamantly against the Dark Lord are now devout followers. Those who had chosen to go to the side of the Light... are mostly dead.

Right then. Hope you all liked my little story. A short summary, really. The full battle will be told in detail... some time soon.
The game shall be run as thus:
Every character has a journal. The idea originated with Dumbledore, who gave each of his followers a bespelled journal with which to keep track of each other. Each journal is linked to the others through a variety of spells, and work much like Tom Riddle's diary once did. A person wries in his journal, and anyone else who is connected may read what it written and may comment. Should a person want to write something for their own viewing only or for a select group of friends, they need only to spell the certain page accordingly.
Through oe of his spies, Voldemort has created a networking of journals within his castle in much the same way. However, where Dumbledore has done this as a safety measure, Voldemort did it on a lark. He thought it was fun. And, more to annoy the other side, he has linked the journals of his own followers to those of Dumbledore as well. A grown-up wizard's game of "I've got
a bigger penis more power."
That said, the journals will run just as any normal live journal. However, kindly remember that 99% of these people are witches and wizards who have never heard of the internet. Emoticons (smilies) and present-tense actions (*hugs*/*giggles*?whatever) are highly discouraged. In fact, if you use them, I'll probably have to whack you over the head. ^_^
Action is left for the actual role playing. Gaming will also be done in the journals, though in a slightly different manner. A post will be made in the first person's journal in prose format. However, instead of posting it to their actual journal, they will post it to the community. Then the second person will respond to that post with their own comment. it can be a long or as short as the players want, though do try to elaborate a bit. Simply saying
Snape frowned and glared at the boy, "Mr. Malfoy, you had better have a good reason to interrupt my nightly wank." is rather pathetic, now isn't it?
While instant messagers are obviously not part of the actual RP, they are quite vital. They open up communications between players, even if it's only to say "It's your turn to post." They're there for a reason; use them. The OOC community is there for much the same reason, though on a wider scale. The OOC comm is for Mod posts aside from this one and for messages to the overall populace of the game, i.e. announcing yourself going on a vacation or the like.
Well then, I've babbled on quite enough, yes? Hope that clears up everything.. if not, feel free to ask. I don't bite.. unless you ask. ^.~
