about us

So just what is "Imperious Curse," exactly? Simply put, it's a role playing game based off of the Harry Potter book series. Other than that...well, it's up to the players, really. This is a mature, adult RP that deals with a lot of things that other RPs won't touch. If it's a little bit 'out there' or 'taboo' we'll probably like it.

rules

Characters
~Keep it close to cannon. (the way the characters act in the books) Giving a bit of personality to you character is good. Having Lucius Malfoy randomly decide that he's going to be a nice, wonderful person and donate to Muggle charities is not.

~NO ORIGINAL CHARACTERS. While I have nothing against OCs, there are more than enough characters in the books for everyone to have one. If you want to 'create' a character, chose one of the lesser characters and give them a personality of their own. Just because a character is rarely mentioned/a 'background' character in the books doesn't mean that they can't make themselves important here. There are no 'background' characters here.

General

~There is no rating here, so anything that might be 'naughty' must be clearly marked. This is a mature RPG, so please do not be childish about it. Also, we are het, slash, and femmeslash friendly. Just like in real life, different people have different sexual preferences. If you can not respect this, you don't belong here. While relationships and the like are more than welcome to be explored and enjoyed, it should not be the entire basis of the game -add other things in, as well. Also, please keep it tasteful and in accordance with the plot;
rampant smut gets boring after a while.

~Everyone must have an AIM screen name and a LJ journal. No exceptions. Players are expected to keep in-character journals on a regular basis (at least twice a week) and to engage in RPs with other characters.

~Knowledge is power. Know what is going on within your group, at least. One who doesn't keep up with her peers is quickly lost, and that can lead to problems.

~ Due to the need for a real time commitment and that their may be mature content in this RP (including violence, swearing, and adult situations), Imperious Curse has an age limit of at least 17 for all players.

~Have fun! This is a game, after all, not a way of life. Have fun with it, and treat others as you'd like to be treated. If there are any problems that can't be hashed out calmly between players, bring them to me. I'm a fair and honest dictator. ^.~

CORP (Challenge Oriented Role Playing)

Never heard of CORP? Well, no reason you should. See, we just made it up.

Basically, this is a challenge-oriented role playing game. Every week, each individual character will be given a private challenge that they must meet through the course of RPing. It won't be anything too restrictive. And example might be, "Visit a new place" or, "Incorporate the word 'tintinnabulation' somewhere in a thread". We believe that giving each character a small goal will help provide inspiration. How you meet these goals and who you RP with to achieve them is completely up to you.

The second part of the challenge is designed to help move the story line along. There will be two sides - IC_Light and IC_Darkness. Players will chose a side to play on - Ron, Hermione, Seamus, etc, will be on the side of the light and Draco, Blaise, Nott, etc, will be on the side of the dark. Each community will be given a challenge that must be met by the RP group as a whole. How you intend to meet this challenge should be planned out with your group either with AIM or in the commenting feature when the challenge is posted in Imperious Curse.

In addition to each side, there are rogue players - players whose loyalties are in question, who jump between communities, and have ulterior motives. Beware of these players. They can cause you trouble down the road.

The reasoning behind this system is to help provide inspiration for our players, to give value to the great writing abilities we are certain they possess, and to provide a method for moving the story line along. The story itself has a beginning, middle, and ending that has already more or less been planned out - of course, all of which is subject to change depending on the creativity of our players.
