A/N: I don't know how they actually become Animagi; I don't know how they actually transform. But this is how I imagined it.
James was the first to get it right. Sirius had given up, and he sat on the floor of the Shrieking Shack, playing wizards' chess with Remus.
Sirius looked up to see James concentrating very hard. “Y’know, mate, you should really just let it go. I don’t think any of us will be able to get it right.”
Sirius returned to the game. He was looking at the floor between himself and Remus when James’s shadow began to shift, becoming taller with magnificent antlers crowning his head. Sirius barely heard Peter’s animated applause and cries of glee.
“Prongs,” Sirius breathed.

“James, are we talking about the same cousin of mine? I thought you hated all of them.”
James grinned, his face looking most mischievous.
“Sirius, mate, when you’re in love, trivial things like that have no meaning. And I am most definitely in love.”
Sirius eyed James cautiously, unsure if he was joking or serious. “You’re in love with Bellatrix Black? You need serious help, mate.”

“Don’t know what he means by it!” sniffed Rose Evans, “Owl feathers all over my kitchen! And the…p – pollen…Ah-CHOO!”
“Gesundheit,” Lily repeated, “What are you on about?”
“Sends me a hundred bloody roses!” Rose sniffled, “With a hundred bloody owls! More money than Midas…only after one thing…butter me up, will you?…You stay clear of him, Lily! The boy’s bad news!”
Lily’s interest in James instantly doubled.
