garbage picking finds

...I guess TPTB don't like collecting bulk garbage in the winter. Go figure.

Being the last day, pickings were pretty slim... lots of busted patio furniture, a surprising number of computer monitors and tv's, but nothing promising. But I did find this:




Okay, so I only grabbed it for the handset, hanger, some of the hardware, bells and ringer mechanism, but still, it was kinda cool.

The fall is always slow for good garbage picking, but there was a couple of interesting items this past week...

It was a slow bulk garbage day, as expected; things slow down in September until the spring again here. But it wasn't for naught...

The insecticide sprayer was found a while ago, but the wooden wagon was picked up this morning. Both are from the late fifties/early sixties, and were promptly sold to a vintage props house I do business with...I'm living off the fat of the curbside!

I've been too busy of late to cruise the usual "bulk garbage" neighbourhoods, but I was able to score these two beauties driving by a house that had had a yard sale the day before.



There's a couple of knobs missing, but I'm thinking about gutting them for some intense steampunk modifications, like housing a Tesla coil or a Jacob's Ladder.

The last one was somewhat disappointing, and I found I also had competition on the road, running across the same three or four vehicles cruising the streets as myself. What's the world coming to...

But this week hit paydirt, first with a perfectly serviceable electric guitar amplifier:

...and I totally forgot to mention that there was a like new copy of Battlefield 1942 for PC there too. Snagged!

My wife found a 27" Sony Trinitron in the garbage today. It even had the remote which had good batteries in it. We just rolled it home in a nearby shopping cart, dusted it off and plugged it in.

I just discovered this community after a quick search (a friends' thread was discussing garbage-picking finds), and figured there had to still be life in the old girl...

Several weeks ago I hauled this beast out of the garbage after a thunderstorm. After a few days drying out it seems fine...



Yes, a fully functional iMac, albiet, not an especially new one. I also picked up a Magnavox 15" flatscreen monitor/tv, but it needs a little electronics repair.
