My name is Devon, I am 18, and from Florida. I was just got accepted to Furman on the 15th! I am so excited because it is my first choice. I have a bunch of questions but one is about the dorms. Can Freshmen get into Ramsey and Haynsworth because I think those are my first choices. What are the diffences between them? Are they nice? Any insider tips for upcoming Freshmen :)
Hello, all! I went to Furman this past summer for the orchestra camp and absolutely LOVED it there. I'm also in an academically rigorous high school program, which makes Furman even more of an appeal. Just wondering if the music program for the students is as wonderful as the summer camp, or even more so.
Oh just to mention, after a recent spamming of the community I made new membership moderator approved, but I'm happy to add anyone who seems to have a legit account.
So, I'm a freshman in the Genetics class with Dr. Liao, and I have some questions.
First off, there are only three freshmen in that class, and I'm worried. I took AP bio in 11th grade, and only got a 4, so obviously my biology is a bit (ok, a lot) rusty. I thought the 4 was generous, as I paid little attention in class and basically had a cram-fest the night before the exam. Anyway, can someone give me an idea of what kind of work I'll need to put into this class in order to get at least a B?
Do I need a lot of lab-knowledge for labs? (The labs in AP bio were rushed and rarely completed, so my lab knowledge is both rusty and incomplete) Should I read the book every night? Are tests more lecture-based or textbook-based? Are tests insanely specific? Would I be better off taking Bio 11 first, even though I had the option to skip it?
I hope someone on here has taken that class and can give me some insight, for I am afraid it may give me ulcers. Thanks guys.
wow, thanks to everyone who answered my questions in the last post. very informative of courseee. i do have another question though. I've heard that furman is "academically stressful" from a lot of sources, so I was wondering how bad it really is (will I be tearing my hair out, crying, etc etc over schoolwork). So I guess what I'm inquiring to is how much free time the average student has and if the five-day-a-week class system is more helpful than a hindrance. And just, you know, if school will be my entire life.
Hey hey, I'm Katie and I'm considering applying to Furman early decision this fall. I live in Connecticut and I had pretty much all of my academics-oriented questions answered when I visited campus this past April, and now I just have some general questions. 1) One of the college review books in my guidance office (from 2002) has a quote from a student that says that "nobody dates." I was just wondering if this was true; I know a lot of time is spent on schoolwork, but I just found this comment curious.
2) I'll be frank-- I'm somewhat afraid I might not fit in at Furman, because I've been told it's a "preppy" school and so I'm not sure how many people would share my interests there if this was true. So I was just wondering how diverse the school is in the way of music taste, style, etc.
3) When (approximately)is spring break?
4) my aunt lives in greenville so I'm pretty familiar with the city, but I was just wondering how many concert venues are in the area and how many people frequent them.
I know I have more questions, but I just can't think of them right now. Anyone who knows me will say that I am the WORST at making decisions, so I am trying to find out as much as I can about the schools I am applying to (Furman and Winthrop are my top two choices). If anyone has anything they'd like to share I would appreciate it times three hundred thousand.
Furman Accepting Students Displaced By Hurricane; Other Relief Efforts Underway
GREENVILLE,
S.C. - Furman University announced today that it is enacting the
following relief efforts in response to the devastation of Hurricane
Katrina:
Do any of you happen to have the 2-disc set of the Rent soundtrack? I can't find my first disc, and want to get some tracks off of it. If you've got it, and you're anywhere near the Greenville area, could I borrow it, burn a copy and give it back? Grazie.
Oh yeah, does anyone in the area have Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince that I can borrow? I'd only need it for a few days, I'm sure. I'm going to go crazy if I finish the Order of the Phoenix and can't start the 6th one for 247270898 years. And yeah, I'm 87th in line for it at the library, so I can write that off, and I'm not willing to pay $30 for a book.
EDIT: I've found a copy to borrow already!! I can pick it up tomorrow! *fangirliness*
