Hunter is a physical combat class introduced in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. Wielding bows, Hunters are skilled in forest and mountain combat and possess higher Strength and Speed than Archers.
History in the Series
In their original appearance in Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, Hunters are a counterpart to the Archer class, trading Defense for Strength. Like several other classes in the game, it has no promotion. Most Hunters that appear in the game are criminals, similar to Bandits and Pirates. Castor is the only playable Hunter in the game.
In Mystery of the Emblem, Hunters are able to promote into Horsemen with an Orion's Bolt, a class that grants them a horse for superior field movement and dodging capabilities.
In Genealogy of the Holy War, Hunters are an enemy-only class. In comparison to the playable Bow Fighter class, Hunters have higher HP in exchange for lower Dexterity and Speed.
Hunters are again an enemy-exclusive class in Thracia 776. They were given new battle animations, as well as higher defense than Bow Fighters.
In the remakes Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, Hunters are playable and retain the ability to promote into Horseman, gaining both a mount and the ability to wield swords.
Other Games
In TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga, Hunters are an enemy-only bow-wielding variant of the Bandit class. They are common enemies encountered in the game's early maps.
