Eugenics

There is eugenics in the hero society of BNHA, part of this is included intentionally as a bad thing (notably, quirk marriage), but others are portrayed as good things, mostly societal and cultural influences of eugenics (that is present everywhere) seeping into the work.

Discussion & Meta

Quirkless Discrimination

While quirkless discrimination is definitely canon to an extent (the vicious bullying Midoriya faces from his peers in middle school; the pro-heroes and even All Might telling off Midoriya for wanting to be a hero in chapter 1) many fics extend the discrimination to broader swaths of society, examining it's impact in more areas of life. Some codify it legally, making quirkless people restricted from jobs or even housing and schools. Fics often bring up fanon statistics about quirkless people having shorter life expectancy or high suicide rates.

On the other hand, some fics use legal discrimination (of the flavour "vigilantism is legally defined in terms of quirk usage") as a loophole that justifies Vigilante Izuku.

Quirkless Discrimination (My Hero Academia) has over 4000 works in the tag.

Insults & Slurs

Canon

  • Non-human terms used on those with a non-human animal-based appearance and those who have "villainous" quirks or no quirk, such as Mutt, a term used in real life as an insult towards dogs who are mixed breed and/or not obedient, and towards mixed race and financially lower class humans as a way of saying they respect them as much as a dog in a derogatory way. In BNHA, it is used on those with heteromorphic quirks that make them have the appearance of a canine.

Fanon

  • Null, for quirkless people
  • Unevolved, for quirkless people
