Vim! was a prewar soda pop native to New England. Residents considered it a point of pride to drink it over the more nationally recognized Nuka Cola brand.Fallout 4 loading screens

Vim! is a soft drink in the Fallout 4 DLC Far Harbor.

Background[edit]

Vim! Pop Incorporated was founded in 1931, initially sold as a health tonic.[2] In New England it was more widely consumed than its rival Nuka-Cola.[3] Vim was even referred to as a state tradition and about to become the official state drink of Maine but during the process of making this official, legal situations forced the company to back off its marketing.[4]

Vim was going to be bought out by the Nuka-Cola Corporation before the war. Doyle Reed, the owner who held the company in his family for years, was fighting against the takeover. However, with certain financial problems being caused by the company's legal issues, the CEO was being urged to sell the company.[5] The only legal entanglement that the public was aware of consisted of a male employee of the Vim! Factory, Alex, allegedly punching a female bar patron,[4] though several witnesses denied this, instead supporting Alex's claim that the female hit him unprovoked and he hit back as a reflex.[6] Still, the local news attached to this story and forced the company to hold back on television advertisements and product release.[7]

One successful form of marketing which continued despite these problems was the Vim! Ambassador program, where salespeople in fully functional T-51 Power Armor painted in Vim! livery would go out among the public.[8] Two sets of such armor are available: one in Vim! Paint at the Vim! Pop Factory next to the terminal where the paint schemes can be downloaded,[9] and another in Vim! Refresh Paint in a truck along the coastal road north of the National Park Visitor's Center.

Gameplay[edit]

A combination of pure Maine spring water and other extracts and syrups, the flagship beverage of the Vim! Pop Corporation is slightly fermented, which helps to better bring out its unique and natural flavor profile.[10] It restores 50% more health with the added benefits of being craftable and not subjecting the consumer to any additional radiation poisoning.

Crafting[edit]

Provided the recipe has previously been downloaded from the research terminal inside the laboratory on the roof of the Vim! Pop Factory, Vim can be crafted from the following ingredients at any cooking station:

The Captain's Blend is a result of Vim! research and development team member Iris Mason mixing in fiddleheads, lobster shells and various extracts. Aster was later added to mask the aroma of the lobster shells.[11] One tester remarked that another "smelled like a pier" after drinking the beverage.[12] It made lobsters less prone to attack a commercial fisherman when removing them from the cages.[13]

Vim! Pop Incorporated was in a dispute with Nuka-Cola over the use of "Quartz" in the drink title, as the latter company had already produced a drink with the name "Quartz" a regional exclusive in the American Southwest.[14] Nuka-Cola won out, requiring Vim Quartz to be removed from shelves by the following year.

Refresh looks the same as regular Vim, but with a light green color and a lime wedge design on the label. Rarer than Vim, it can be found in Vim machines. It is an upgrade to regular Vim, as the weight and lack of rads stays the same while the HP and AP gains increase, along with the added faster recovery effect.
