You try having somebody botch a mind-wipe on you, and see how it feels. Then get back to me, okay?— Jule

Jule is a Synth living in Acadia on the Island in the Fallout 4 DLC Far Harbor.

Background[edit]

Jule believes that she was running from the Institute and that someone botched her mind wipe.[1] She suffers from realistic nightmares, and thinks that a key in her possession might be tied to them.[2]

Unbeknownst to her, she previously went by the name of Victoria, and the explanation for her nightmares is that she was coerced by Faraday into steering a boat that she ultimately crashed on the shore near Southwest Harbor.[3] She received severe damage to her head and upper torso that impaired her cognitive functions, and Faraday had to chose to let her die or to wipe her memory and perform reconstructive surgery on her, and he chose the latter.[4] However, there were complications during the mind wipe due to a lack of high-tech equipment, leaving her mind in its currently broken state.[5]

Notes[edit]

  • She is designated as "Subject V5" in Faraday's terminal entry.[4]
  • If she is told the truth about her past, she claims to leave Acadia and offers the Sole Survivor her belongings.[6] She will then sit on the ground outside of the observatory indefinitely.

References[edit]

  1. Sole Survivor: "What do you mean, 'mind wipe?'"
Jule: "Oh for fuck's sake... You're a synth on the run. You go to someone, you get a new face, and they wipe your mind so the Institute can't find you. Only somebody screwed mine up. So here I am. Now, just... Please... Leave me alone."

  2. Sole Survivor: "Cog said you needed to talk about something."
Jule: "All right, look. You know my head is messed up, right? Brains scrambled or whatever? I keep havin' these dreams. They're sorta like dreams, I guess... but... it's like they're more real. There's... god, this is so stupid... There's this boat, and it's on fire. And I hear screaming... I think it's me screaming, but I can't be sure. And... and that's it."
Sole Survivor: "That sounds awful. I'm sorry you're going through this."
Jule: "Okay, let's not get all sappy. I thought it was all bullshit, only... Okay I know this sounds ridiculous, but I found this key. I had it... somewhere... it's fuzzy, but I swear it's connected."

  5. Sole Survivor: "Can you just tell me what happened?"
Faraday: "The boat crashed, she was beyond injured. We did what we could, but the only way to get her past the trauma was to try a wipe. I don't have Institute-level technology here. There were complications. And now... Well, now she's Jule. She's broken, but she's alive."
    (Faraday's dialogue)
  6. Jule: "Well, I'm done. I quit. You can have my stuff; doesn't mean shit to me anymore. There's a chest down in the basement. This'll open it. I'm outta here."
