The Twisted Hairs were a tribe mentioned in Fallout: New Vegas.
Background[edit]
The tribe was named after the braids worn by members.[1] The Twisted Hairs forged an alliance with Caesar and the Legion to act as scouts for him during his conquest of the Arizona region.[2] Legion frumentarii Vulpes Inculta betrayed them once the region was pacified at Dry Wells, killing or enslaving the tribe members.[2][3] Their tribal identity was erased and those that resisted were crucified along the sides of Interstate 40.[2][3]
Ulysses was a member of the Twisted Hairs, who still wears the tribe's namesake hairstyle even after being conscripted as a Legion frumentarii.[3] He mentions that the White Legs imitated his braids as a sign of respect, but he considered it an insult.[1][4] He stated that the White Legs were "ignorant of what the knots meant."[4]
He also mentions a type of poison antidote that his tribe used that is better than antivenom called Snakebite Tourniquet, that does not necessitate collecting glands and blood.[5]
Appearances[edit]

- Chris Avellone stated that the Twister Hairs "stored their histories and messages/signs in their hair to other tribe members (married/how many kills/profession)."[Dev 1]
- The Twisted Hairs were also planned for Van Buren.[Doc 1]
- The Twisted Hairs were also planned for Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel 2.[Doc 2][Doc 3]

Ulysses: "Antivenom's helpful around the Mojave with the Bark Scorpions. Even one sting can kill you. Tunneler bite can be just as bad. My tribe, Twisted Hairs, had a better way than Antivenom, if you act fast. Snakebite Tourniquet - cuts off the venom, no need to scavenge glands and blood. Or drink that mess."

She wandered the desert, traveling from tribe to tribe, to try and find someone who would take her in. Every tribe turned her away. No one wanted her among them in case Caesar came looking for her and found her."
- ↑ Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel 2 Design Document p.29: "Keats has another job for the player. He has overheard that a group of raiders calling themselves the Twisted Hairs are marching against another BOS outpost in the region, this one in San Antonio. The player can run there and then come back, and his research into the GECK and the data chip should be done. Shale will then tell the player about the Twisted Hair attack, but this time for a different reason. If the player wants, he can join the Hairs and take out the Brotherhood. Lots of good weapons and armor there. Shale also takes the data chip and offers to interpret it... for a price."

"Given by Shale: The player stops the car outside the Alamo and meets up with Harpy, the Twisted Hairs' leader. She tells the player about the invasion and about how she was told about this place by a Cipher (Reese). The player is charged with getting into the Brotherhood compound and taking out Paladin Haig. Once he does. Harpy gives him a good weapon and he can go back to Austin."
