Laser Weapons are a type of weapons.
Background[edit]
Laser weapons are noted for their minimal recoil which makes them easy to use in long-range combat, and for parts such as the Wave Particle Diverter and lenses which are difficult to replace. On the other hand, maintenance can be accomplished by using water to clean and cool various parts.[1]
The Wattz 1000 Laser Pistol,[2] AEP laser pistols, AER laser rifles,[3] and H&K L30 Gatling Laser[4] were prototyped or used by the United States Armed Forces during the Great War, Resource Wars and Sino-American War.
Laser Pistols[edit]
Laser pistols are powered by small energy cells, built with a laser diode.[5]
Military models were utilized before the Great War, including the AEP5 and AEP7 Laser Pistols. Additionally, the AEP7's successor was planned to replace the N99 10mm Pistol.[3] The Wattz 1000 Laser Pistol was also used by the military though their version had different wattage than the civilian or police variants.[2]
Laser pistols were given to employees of the DC Transit Authority, with instructions included in the DCTA Laser Firearms Protocol.[6] The protocol states that firing the laser pistol in the presence of a gas leak could cause an "undesired explosion and/or severe personal injury."[6] Failure to follow the instructions would also result in reprimands from the DCTA Regulatory Committee.[6]

AEP[edit]
The AEP series of laser pistols were small productions of prototype weapons developed by the United States Armed Forces, which went up to version 7. The final version, the AEP7 Laser Pistol, replaced the AEP5 Laser Pistol which was notorious for overheating issues. Recoil is minimal which helps with long-range combat, but field service can be difficult. Water can be used to clean and cool parts, but if a lens is broken, it can be difficult to replace since they require great skill to fabricate or repair.[1][3]

AER[edit]
The AER series of laser rifles were small productions of prototype weapons developed by the United States Armed Forces. The series went up to twelve but there exists an AER14 Prototype in Vault 22. The AER9 Laser Rifle was considered more dependable than the models which followed afterwards, owing to the titanium housed crystal array.[3]
Though field service is possible and water can be used to clean and cool parts, the lenses and Wave Particle Diverter are difficult parts to manufacture and can make it difficult to fix in the field. On the other hand, the weapons have low recoil which makes long range combat require less marksmanship ability.[1]

Gatling Lasers[edit]
Gatling Lasers are heavy weapons that use Fusion Cores, Microfusion Cells or Electron Charge Packs. The L30 variant found in Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics was in the prototyping stage at the beginning of the Resource Wars.[4] Gatling Lasers are also used by robots such as Sentry Bots and Securitrons.
