A Wattz Electronics C-U model motion sensor. Detects the movement of biological material over a distance of meters using a tuned radar device. Having one in your inventory will also help you avoid outdoor encounters (+20% Outdoorsman skill)

The Motion Sensor is a usable item in Fallout 2.

Background[edit]

The Wattz Electronics C-U model motion sensor is a computer auxiliary that detects the movement of biological material over a distance of meters using a tuned radar device.[1] The motion sensor can be used in conjunction with the Pip-Boy 2000 AutoMap feature, and will display all living and moving beings on the map - represented as red dots.[2][Pub 1] The C-U model is only compatible to the Pip-Boy 2000 or earlier models; the PIP-Boys used by Vault City personnel are too advanced to use this auxiliary.[2]

Gameplay[edit]

When used - either from the active item slot or from inventory - the motion sensor will automatically call up the automap and display all entities on the map (or critters, in technical terms used by the engine) as red dots on the map.

In Fallout 2, having a motion sensor in inventory provides a +20% bonus to the Outdoorsman skill when traveling on the world map. The +20% bonus is applied to the party member with the highest Outdoorsman skill. A motion sensor does nothing in the inventory of a companion.

Behind the Scenes[edit]

A motion sensor was planned for inclusion in the canceled Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel 2.[Doc 1]

The motion sensor must be placed in an active item slot to function correctly. Use the motion sensor to scout the area ahead."
