Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

To start the quest, tell Dr. Richards that "Things look pretty rough in here" while he is inside the Camp Forlorn Hope Medical Center, and then exhaust his dialogue about missing supplies. The thief in question is Private Stone, who can be observed sneaking through the camp at night, starting around 1:00 AM. At around 2:30 AM, he will enter the tent housing the Medical Center, where he can be found attempting to steal more supplies.

There are a number of options for dealing with Private Stone:

  • Watch him steal the supplies inside the tent, then report him to Dr. Richards afterwards, which completes the quest and grants the regular reward; 300 XP, 3 NCR fame and 50 Karma.[1] Alternatively, confront him about the theft and listen to his explanations.[2]
  • Pickpocket him after he steals the supplies and take the Empty Hydra Syringe from his inventory. After that, either turn him in with Dr. Richards for completing the quest and obtaining the regular reward,[3] or confront him about the theft and listen to his explanations.[4]
  • Ask Dr. Richards about the symptoms on Hydra use and pass a skill check in Medicine (requires at least 50 and grants 50 XP),[5] then speak with Private Stone and pass another skill check in Medicine (requires at least 50 and grants 50 XP) in order to have him confess,[6] and listen to his explanations.
  • Speak with Private Sexton about the missing supplies,[7] then confront Private Stone about his nightly walks by passing a skill check in Speech (requires at least 50 and grants 50 XP),[8] and listen to his explanations.

Listening to Private Stone's explanations will eventually lead to several dialogue options on how to proceed with him:

  • Decide to turn him in, this results in Stone attempting to bribe the Courier with five Hydras.[9]
    • Declining the offer allows for turning in Stone to Dr. Richards for completing the quest for the regular reward.[10]
    • Accepting the offer gives the Hydras.[11] The quest can then be completed by either lying to Dr. Richards for no additional reward,[12] or by turning Private Stone in for the XP and NCR fame and a loss of 50 Karma.
  • Decide that Stone should turn himself in, by passing a skill check in Speech (requires at least 60 and grants 60 XP).[13] This completes the quest and grants the regular reward.
  • Decide to blackmail Stone, who then offers five Hydras.[14] The quest can then be completed by either lying to Dr. Richards for no additional reward,[12] or by turning Private Stone in for the XP and NCR fame and a loss of 50 Karma.
  • Decide to let Stone's activities slide in exchange for his promise to stop doing them in the future.[15] The quest can then be completed by either lying to Dr. Richards for no additional reward,[12] or by turning Private Stone in for the XP and NCR fame and a loss of 50 Karma.

Notes[edit]

Bugs[edit]

  • PCPC Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 Private Stone may disappear, leaving you unable to complete this quest. The quest marker will point to where he usually hangs out (outside the Command Center), but he's not there. It's possible he's trapped under the terrain. He never appears in the medical tent if this happens. [Patched]
  • PCPC Playstation 3Playstation 3 After the completion of the quest with turning Stone in, he may be absent from the jail and be wandering around still (and stealing the Hydra), and all he will say is "Get lost."
