Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
In the middle of The Thorn is a large arena, and surrounding the sides are cages with wasteland creatures grown and kept by Red Lucy for arena battles.
The Courier can bet on a match. Red Lucy will tell them who is fighting, and allows them to bet 20 Caps on either team. Looking at the arena from where Lucy is standing, the red team is on the left side (the same side that the Courier will be placed on when fighting personally), and the blue team is on the right. Intervening in the fight will turn the people in The Thorn hostile. If the team that the Courier placed the bet on wins, they get 40 Caps.
One can also set up custom fights where the Courier can choose which creatures and Fiends fight in the next match, and how many. Since the creatures are expensive to breed, and there is only a limited amount of Fiends to keep and maintain, setting up a custom fight costs caps depending on which creatures are chosen. The first team chosen will be the red team, and if it wins, Red Lucy will give the Courier a Caps reward (slightly more than setting up the fight cost).
Finally, one can tell Red Lucy that they want to fight against the creatures. After choosing the creature types and amount, the combatant will then be sent to the arena cage. The creatures can be looted after killing them. After winning in a fight and returning to Red Lucy, the player will receive a reward in Caps, depending on which creatures were fought. The first three creature options are available immediately, while the other four "greater challenges" are available after bringing her the Pile of Fire Gecko Eggs as a part of Bleed Me Dry.
There is no limit to how many times the Courier can fight in the arena.
| Creature | Reward for 1 | Reward for 2 | Reward for 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Giant Mantis | 10 caps | 20 caps | 30 caps |
| Radscorpion | 20 caps | 40 caps | 60 caps |
| Giant Radscorpion | 40 caps | 80 caps | 120 caps |
| Fire Gecko | 50 caps | 100 caps | 150 caps |
| Nightstalker | 30 caps | 90 caps | 200 caps |
| Cazador | 70 caps | 140 caps | 210 caps |
| Deathclaw | 150 caps | - | 500 caps |
Notes[edit]
- When a fight is first starting, one can close the gates and safely shoot the opponents.
- It is possible to fight one or three deathclaws, but not two. This is due to dialogue limitations with Lucy, as the Courier can only agree to fight one deathclaw, or as many as she has, which is three.
Bugs[edit]
- If you kill any creature with energy or plasma weapons, the ash or goo pile will stay in the fight arena forever.
- Sometimes, a friendly creature will spawn inside your cage area. There is no penalty for killing them, as it counts for the quest.
- Sometimes a custom fight will not progress, with both parties just staring at each other. The only way to fix this is to kill either party, though this will make the Thorn hostile if no Stealth Boy is used.
