I love how softly Edwin speaks with Charles. His voice always has an (irritated) edge whenever he's speaking with other people, but around Charles it gets so soft and tender

Thank you for the ask! Here’s another snippet from across the great divide:
Charles knows that he probably shouldn’t kill Simon Mould. It’d cause way more problems than it’d solve, even if he knows Crystal and Niko would be willing to help him hide the body in a heartbeat. Plus, he’d make a mess of Edwin’s flat, and that would just upset Edwin. But looking at Edwin, who’s sitting so tense that he looks like he might break in half, his face deathly pale and hands gripping the arms of his chair, it’s hard to remember that. Edwin looks afraid, and that’s enough to make Charles’s blood boil.
Charles takes a step forward. “Back up.”
But Simon doesn’t budge from where he’s standing over Edwin, even though his eyes are wide as they flick between Charles, Crystal, and Niko. “You always seem to show up where you’re not wanted, Rowland.”
“You don’t want me here, mate?” Charles mimes a disappointed expression. “That’s a shame. Why don’t you go cry to your fiancee about it?”
“Simon and Emily are no longer engaged,” Edwin says.
“Oh, good for her,” Crystal says from behind Charles. “She can do so much better.”
Simon whirls on her. “What do you know about me and Emily?”
The first chapter of my second fic for @deadbangdetectives has been posted, this one a Payneland superhero AU featuring some lovely artwork by @cannibalisticcorpse! You can either read the first few scenes below or find the whole chapter here on AO3.
Relationships: Payneland w/ background Palasaki
Rating: M
Warnings: temporary character death; superhero AU-typical violence
Summary: When Charles, who operates as the vigilante known as the Blue Phantom, is killed, Edwin dons his partner’s suit in order to seek revenge on the people responsible. But his mission is complicated by the appearance of a new vigilante in town, one who appears to be working with the villainous Esther Finch, and who seems strangely familiar.
Excerpt:
“Charles Rowland,” Edwin tells his fiance’s voicemail as sternly as he can manage when he’s going a truly unwise speed through East London, causing more than one pedestrian to dive out of the way. “You had better not be doing what I think you’re doing.”
His car’s Bluetooth informs him that he has a text message from Crystal Palace, but he swipes it away.
“Because if you’re doing what I think you’re doing, you’ve gone to confront Esther Finch in her own bloody penthouse,” Edwin continues. “Which as we discussed just this morning, would be monumentally unwise, the least of all because she will happily see you jailed for breaking and entering, if she doesn’t flay you alive first. Because, oh yes, she’s the most powerful witch we’ve ever encountered.”
Another driver flips Edwin off as he jumps up onto the sidewalk the pass them, which is fair enough.
“We agreed that we would be cautious about dealing with Esther and David,” Edwin reminds his wonderful, infuriating beloved. “Meeting Esther on her home territory is not cautious. Or must I remind you of the Evil Seagull Incident of 2023?”
I took part in the DBD Reverse Bang with this picture, and the most amazing fic was inspired by it. Just a beautiful story and it made me cry… Thank you @thenyoumaykissthebride

Hi there, thank you for asking! I officially have 5 and a half chapters drafted now, which is a huge win. Here is a snippet from Ch. 6 of my Port Townsend 80’s AU!

“Just the truth, innit?” said Charles. “Now come on, come eat. Mum made enough palak paneer for an army. I can’t finish it all myself.”
Edwin chuckled. “I have no idea what that is, but if your mother made it, I’m sure its delicious. I’ll be over in twenty minutes.”
“No rush. I’ll save you a plate, I promise.”
Edwin’s end of the line clicked, and Charles hung up in turn. Right. He straightened his football jersey. Edwin would be over in twenty minutes. What did he need to do before then? His room was clean; so was the garage. Food was made. Mum had just restocked the tea and biscuits, in case they needed snacks.
Speaking of snacks.
Charles grabbed his backpack off the couch and pulled out the small box Crystal had left him. He slid it open to reveal two joints, expertly rolled. His heart raced. It was a stupid idea. He knew it was a stupid idea, but he shoved the box in his pocket anyway. Who knew? Maybe they’d come in handy. As he tossed his backpack back on the couch, he caught a whiff of his jersey. He lifted his arm and sniffed again.
Oh, jesus.
He glanced at the clock. Seventeen minutes. He dashed upstairs, taking two at a time. Just enough time to shower.

Aromantic Charles Rowland is something that can be so special and I need more people to understand. He loves Edwin. He loves Edwin more than he loves anyone, and the way he loves Edwin might be a little different from how Edwin loves him but that does not make his love any less.
They’ve always been unconventional, so this thing they have (being utterly devoted to the point of walking through Hell to save one another) reflects that. They love each other, both in their own unique way, and they wouldn’t want anything else.
See, just, aromantic Charles who thinks he’s broken because he can’t give Edwin “what he deserves” and Edwin accepting everything Charles gives him happily, because he knows Charles loves him wholly and completely.
It might take them a while to figure it out, but they have forever. They carve out a place in the world together and love each other in every way possible, because being aromantic doesn’t mean Charles cares any less.
We all know that if Edwin holds something out to Charles, he will take it without question. So now I'm picturing Edwin handing Charles a series of items, and ending by holding out his hand to hold.
Charles is smiling. But that smile isn't his. It's not the "I wish life was sunshine so I'm gonna be the sunshine for everyone I like" smile. It's just a relaxed one. Followed by a single snort.
Charles is not frowning like he used to when someone is going through a hard time. Instead his face just says "Dang. Sorry. I'm here."
Charles isn't reacting to stressful situations. He's calm and collected like it's just a trivial, not really important crucial point that just happened to happen to them during a case. He says it'll be alright. It always is, right?
Charles doesn't care that Edwin visited the Cat King. He only replies "Oh, ok." like if Edwin just said he went out to gather supplies.
Charles doesn't flinch in the face of danger. It's not a spell, more of a curse. Still, nothing supernatural. It's just that something broke inside him.

love when Charles Rowland pauses in the middle of his dying and death to ascertain whether the boy he's just met is interested in kissing people. not any specific people just like... people in general. you know. the concept of kissing people. the platonic ideal as it were
Something something Eurydice was killed by a snake something something Charles killed Ester's snake something something their stories don't have the same ending

I got so many asks for Controversial Charles’ Dad Fic that I had to write a whole new scene. It’s not quite fleshed out as much as I would like, but I enjoyed writing this new scene. Heads up for characters off screen being racist.
“Charlie! Come here a minute!” Charles froze at his dad’s shout. He didn’t sound happy, and that was never a good sign. Sure, Charles hadn’t done anything to piss his dad off since he moved to the basement last week, but it had only been a matter of time. “Now, Charlie!” His dad called again. Charles ran up the stairs. His dad hated to be kept waiting and the beating would only be worse if his dad had to come get him.
“Here, dad,” Charles said. Oddly enough, his dad was in the dining room looking over a bunch of different papers. Normally if his dad was angry and Charles didn’t know why, it had something to do with something he’d seen on the telly.
“Sit down,” his dad nodded to the chair across from him without looking up from the current stack of papers he was looking through. For a minute or so, they just sat in silence. Charles had learned by now that he wasn’t meant to interrupt his dad’s reading. Eventually though, his dad did speak up. “What were you thinking for Secondary school?” his dad asked out of nowhere.
