We have got to stop framing our oppression in ways that promote the idea that other people cannot relate to our struggles. Not only does it isolate comrades in the struggle, it actively diminishes recognition of other struggles--often including those even more horrific than what we are at risk of. And this happens especially between Gay and Black struggles.

"when have straight people ever had to check what states were safe for them?" Sundown towns are still a thing. Starlight tours. What states have abortion access? What states have open carry? What states have stand your ground? What states have 3-strike rules? Women, people of color, disabled people, immigrants, and more have had to be abundantly cautious where they travel to. Straight trans people have much more travel risk right now than gay cis people.

It's a new iteration of the same tired question: "imagine if straight people weren't allowed to marry" interracial marriage in the US is younger than my parents. We disgrace people of color by forgetting their history and contemporary struggles, and we abandon queer people of color, Black queer people, by segmenting their overlapping fights.

Aromantic Charles Rowland is something that can be so special and I need more people to understand. He loves Edwin. He loves Edwin more than he loves anyone, and the way he loves Edwin might be a little different from how Edwin loves him but that does not make his love any less.

They’ve always been unconventional, so this thing they have (being utterly devoted to the point of walking through Hell to save one another) reflects that. They love each other, both in their own unique way, and they wouldn’t want anything else.

See, just, aromantic Charles who thinks he’s broken because he can’t give Edwin “what he deserves” and Edwin accepting everything Charles gives him happily, because he knows Charles loves him wholly and completely.

It might take them a while to figure it out, but they have forever. They carve out a place in the world together and love each other in every way possible, because being aromantic doesn’t mean Charles cares any less.

We all know that if Edwin holds something out to Charles, he will take it without question. So now I'm picturing Edwin handing Charles a series of items, and ending by holding out his hand to hold.

God forbid a girl be both kind and full of rage.

Charles is smiling. But that smile isn't his. It's not the "I wish life was sunshine so I'm gonna be the sunshine for everyone I like" smile. It's just a relaxed one. Followed by a single snort.

Charles is not frowning like he used to when someone is going through a hard time. Instead his face just says "Dang. Sorry. I'm here."

Charles isn't reacting to stressful situations. He's calm and collected like it's just a trivial, not really important crucial point that just happened to happen to them during a case. He says it'll be alright. It always is, right?

Charles doesn't care that Edwin visited the Cat King. He only replies "Oh, ok." like if Edwin just said he went out to gather supplies.

Charles doesn't flinch in the face of danger. It's not a spell, more of a curse. Still, nothing supernatural. It's just that something broke inside him.

The notes pulled Charles from his thoughts. He blinked. He'd been getting lost in thought a lot lately. Thoughts of Edwin smiling. Edwin laughing. Edwin sitting by the window, his nose buried in a copy of The Moonstone; the glow of sunset warming his cheeks, the shine of candlelight coloring his hair.

It was weird. He had no idea why it kept happening.

I wonder about whether CombatSecUnits are really all that dangerous as MB believes them to be. Not in terms of ability but in terms of being more “evil” and willfully dangerous than regular SecUnits.

A lot of the stuff that MB believes is just not accurate. It also thinks that all rogues are a huge threat. And it repeatedly claims that even non-rogue units are so so dangerous that they can’t even be allowed to be transported in gunships (only maybe in cargo). And while any person with weapons build into their arms will be dangerous to a certain degree, SecUnits do not appear to be this dangerous at all. Not the rogue ones that show up in the stories but likely also not SecUnits in general. It wouldn’t make sense for the companies to continue using them if they regularly killed all the people.

Sure, that one CombatSecUnit in Exit Strategy told MB that all it wants is to kill MB, but I’m not convinced that this actually shows how dangerous CombatSecUnits are. Let’s be honest, if in one of the earlier stories, MB encountered a rogue unit, it would have tried to kill it, shoot-first-ask-questions-later-style. It talks like that in All Systems Red, when it initially believes that DeltFall might have been murdered by rogue units. It intends to kill those rogue units and even stresses that this is something that it wants to do.

So this CombatSecUnit on TranRollinHyfa might be in a similar position and it just wants to kill this evil, dangerous, no-good, rogue SecUnit that is making the port unsafe. (Of course, maybe it’s just an asshole, that is also possible)
