Question about random Iranian villages Why are there SO MANY it is insane just a question WHY SO MANY 100.11.110.92 (talk) 01:40, 22 October 2024 (UTC) Comment - So, this basically comes down mostly to a single editor (Carlossuarez46) spending year going through the entire 2006 Iranian census and creating an entry for Every. Single. Item. on the list. No problem with this, right? Wrong. Because the Iranian census lists a lot of locations that are not villages but instead pumps/farms/factories/bridges/shops/nomad-counting-places/etc. etc. etc. So many of the articles about Iranian "villages" are, in fact, just totally wrong. We've deleted tens of thousand of these, but tens of thousands more remain on Wikipedia waiting to be dealt with. FOARP (talk) 09:37, 19 October 2025 (UTC) Unsourced moves of various Iranian villages Could anyone more familiar with Iranian geography than I am please reivew the contributions of User:سپهراد آمیتیس, especially the page moves? They appear to have moved a number of Iranian villages to new names with no sources, and did not respond to my request that they provide sources. I haven't been able to find any, but this isn't really my area. I reverted one, Darshanemu, but don't quite feel confident enough to mass revert here. Rusalkii (talk) 20:54, 30 May 2025 (UTC) @Rusalkii: - As far as I can see this place probably is a housing-complex called Darshenmu. Whether or not it's actually a village (or, if it is a village, whether the village is called Darshenmu) is impossible to say, because the sourcing provided is the Iranian census, which simply counted the number of people around a specific named location (which could just be a building, such as a housing complex). This is a known issue and a big problem with thousands and thousands of Iranian "village" articles that are actually not about villages but isntead about individual buildings. There are two addresses given in the settlement at the location in this article: "کلمرز مغازه نواب کلمرزی " (machine translation: Kalamarz, Navab Kalamarzi's shop) and "روستای درشنمو کلمرز" - (machine translation: Darshanmo Village, Kelmarz - nb. this is labelled as an apartment building). "Kalamarz", "Kelmarz", and "Kolmorz" are all just different romanisations of the same word in Farsi (کلمرز) as far as I can tell (I don't speak Farsi obviously, but that's what I get from different romanisation guides). The corresponding FA wikipedia article is called درشنمو کلمرز - which machine translates as "Darshenmo Kelmarz". So this place could in reality be called Kolmorz and User:سپهراد آمیتیس's move might be accurate, indeed they may even be someone who knows this from first-hand knowledge, but without better sourcing it's impossible to say. I tried creating a new article about what seems like a notable Iranian award (for children books), but I cannot even find out the award name in Persian (and thus can't check if there is a Persian wiki article). I assume most sources are in Iranian, and annoyingly, I seem to be geo-IP blocked from some Iranian English content (probably because I live in Korea and trigger some spam/security flags on their severs? Template:Welcome-foreign is a bilingual welcome template used to welcome new users who have written content in some other language besides English. The template welcomes them first in English, then in their own language, as long as it is one of the three dozen languages it can handle. New languages are easily added. I have added support for 'Persian', but I don't know Persian (Farsi) so I used automatic translation to create Template:Welcome-foreign/Persian from the original at Template:Welcome-foreign/English. I'd appreciate it if a native Farsi speaker could verify or improve the translation. (Note that the term 'Persian' is used as the language name in English corresponding to language code fa; see meta:Table of Wikimedia projects#Projects per language codes, and look at the row for Farsi under language code = fa: in column one of the table.
