Favor for Review
editHello. I would like to ask you a favor to review the one pending draft I have. It has been submitted from 20 March, one of the oldest drafts right now as I see. I also added more recently a Wikipedia:THREE comment to facilitate the review, but still there is no comment or feedback or anything from then. I know that the AfC backlog is huge, but more than 3 months is unmanageable to create any new article (currently 20 articles and hopefully some more soon), and this has created to me confusion. I ask this from you, since you have already reviewed many of my previous articles, and I think you are the most efficient reviewer that I have seen here so far. If you make this favor, I promise doing something else back, like some AfDs that I have started to do lately, since the AfC backlog has affected me in how to continue with new drafts. Thank you! Chiserc (talk) 23:24, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry @Chiserc, I’m traveling at the moment and won’t really be actively editing for the next couple of weeks. I might try to take a look once I’m back if it hasn’t been reviewed by then. MCE89 (talk) 23:51, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- No worries. With the slow rate of reviews, and such a huge backlog, it may reach 4 months, since I don't expect a review within a month. In any case, thanks! Chiserc (talk) 00:11, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- @MCE89, if you are now active, please take a look on the pending draft, which is now one of the oldest in the AfC queue, since I am afraid the backlog is growing and will continue to grow in 4 or more months. That's why I have stopped making new drafts. Thanks again! Chiserc (talk) 14:42, 6 July 2026 (UTC)

WikiCup 2026 July newsletter
editThe third round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 June at 23:59 (UTC). As a reminder, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, while peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 3 will advance to round 4 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.
Round 3 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; eight scored over 500; and thirteen scored over 300. The top three contestants had at least one featured article (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:
MCE89 (submissions) with 1567 points, mainly from good and featured articles about Australian people and geography, as well as some article reviews
Bgsu98 (submissions) with 1547 points, mainly from good articles, featured articles, featured lists, and a good topic about figure skating, along with 20 article reviews
Reconrabbit (submissions) with 1004 points, mainly from a high-multiplier featured article on European rabbit and several good articles, DYKs, and reviews
A.Cython (submissions) with 1004 points, mainly from good articles about warfare, along with 22 article reviews
Generalissima (submissions) with 859 points, mainly from good and featured articles about rivers and East Asian topics
The full scores for round 3 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 7 featured-topic articles, 117 good articles, 74 good-topic articles and more than 30 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 13 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 180 reviews. The tournament points table has been updated.
Remember that any content promoted after 28 June but before the start of Round 4 can be claimed in Round 4. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:49, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

- Hi @Urug1948, and sorry for the slow reply! It looks like you might have used an LLM to create your draft at User:Urug1948/sandbox. If that's the case, please avoid using AI tools on Wikipedia in future — LLMs tend to do a very bad job of following Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, so using them to create article content is not allowed. To create a page about this football club, the most important thing you need to do first is show that it meets Wikipedia's inclusion criteria. To do this, you need to find multiple sources that are reliable, unaffiliated with the club, and that discuss it in detail. For instance, looking for newspaper articles about the club's history might be a good place to start. You can also have a read of WP:YFA for some tips on creating your first article. Good luck, and let me know if there's anything else I can help you with! MCE89 (talk) 08:06, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

The 2026 Core Contest Winners!
editThe winners of the 2026 Core Contest are announced 🎉. A huge turnout that resulted in one of our trickiest deliberation sessions. The judges (Aza24, Femke and Casliber) would like to thank everybody who joined and congratulate the winners!
- First place (and a prize of £120) goes to Vigilantcosmicpenguin (talk · contribs) for his dual efforts on Flatbread and Tortilla! One, formerly an unsourced list-like article, and the other, once a poorly sourced and spotty overview, both now number 250+ citations from an impressively academic source pool. We particularly commend the efforts to globalize content, treat the topics comprehensively and thoughtfully select illustrations. Both articles (one now a GA) are of a uniquely high quality amid the often underserved food topics on Wikipedia. Bravo!
- Second place (and a prize of £100) goes to Phlsph7 (talk · contribs), a Core Contest regular who has once again shown a mastery of big topics, with his dual efforts on Agnosticism and Premise—both now GAs (one, with a review by our first place winner!). With immensely thorough sourcing improvements, alongside carefully nuanced text on these often misunderstood topics, both articles are a pleasure to read.
- Third place (and a prize of £80) goes to MCE89 (talk · contribs), whose improvements to the Heard Island and McDonald Islands article have led to a triumphant FA declaration. The incredible balance of detail between human, geographical and flora-fauna elements is a great achievement, and sets a high standard for future island articles.
If you wish to start or stop receiving news about The Core Contest, please add or remove yourself from the delivery list. – Aza24 (talk) 02:30, 7 July 2026 (UTC)

Another very clear piece of evidence: Mojtaba's last edit here was on December 10, 2020. He made his last edit on December 28 and was blocked. On December 29, Godney edited this article.
Link:
https://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D9%88%DB%8C%DA%98%D9%87:%D9%85%D8%B4%D8%A7%D8%B1%DA%A9%D8%AA%E2%80%8C%D9%87%D8%A7/Mojtaba2361 - 28 December 2020
An article created and completed by Mojtaba's account is selected. However, he is blocked on December 28 and on December 29, he adds the selected tag to it with his other account. Such a sequence on a small wiki like Farsi is not accidental.Klouim (talk) 14:09, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
He is abusing the IP exemption on Godney's account. So there is a possibility that the investigation will be fruitless. He should be blocked for extortion + illegal account + and very obscene and vulgar language.
For further advice, I will introduce you to three Persian-speaking users:
Anoma Pieris
editHi MCE89. You kindly assisted me [Architect632] in getting the wiki page for Anoma Pieris up. I am having trouble with my password and logging in and need some assistance with adding a further line to the page. After the line "In 2025, Pieris and Australian architect Athanasios Tsakonas are guest co-curating the exhibition Eucalypts of Hodogaya, with Victoria’s Shrine of Remembrance.[16]" can you please insert "In 2026, Pieris and Tsakonas are curating a travelling version of the exhibition Eucalypts of Hodogaya, which opened in April at the Yokohama Archives of History Museum"
The citation for this is <https://kaikou.yokohama-history.org/information/991889/> The Yokohama Archives of History Museum also has an entry in Wikipedia <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yokohama_Archives_of_History>

A barnstar for you!
edit| The Admin's Barnstar | |
| MCE89, thank you for processing a spectacular volume of sockpuppet investigation cases in the past month. There is absolutely no reason you should need an administrator to review your recommended actions instead of simply carrying out those actions yourself.As other editors have mentioned before, your editing history makes you an exceptionally strong candidate for adminship, and if you are interested but hesitating for some reason, I hope this token of encouragement helps you arrive at a decision. Keep up the excellent work! — Newslinger talk 23:17, 10 July 2026 (UTC) |

Regarding The SPI
editThank you for reviewing the case and for the explanation regarding the WP:TAIV data. I appreciate you taking the time to look into this.
I understand that the temporary accounts do not appear to be the same person based on the technical evidence. Given that the subject is currently officiating at the World Cup and has received significant off-wiki attention, I accept that these are likely multiple football fans arriving independently to make similar disruptive edits.
I do have two quick questions, if you don't mind:
First, does the technical data also show whether Maqaumat (talk · contribs) and Wafitauyan (talk · contribs) are connected to each other? My concern was primarily that these two registered accounts share a distinct political interest (Bangladeshi/Awami League topics) and edited the same page in a similar manner. If they are also unconnected, I am happy to drop the matter entirely.
Second, given that the page has already been protected and the disruptive accounts have been blocked or warned, is there anything further I should do at this point, or should I simply monitor the page and report any new disruptions at WP:AIV as you suggested?
Thank you again for your time and assistance. I apologise if this filing was unnecessary. I am still learning the SPI process and appreciate your guidance.
~~~~ BengalMC (talk) 06:05, 11 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @BengalMC. Maqaumat and Wafitauyan are already indefinitely blocked, so there's no need for any further investigation of those two at this time. The page is now protected, but if you do see any further disruption feel free to make a report at AIV. As an aside, please also don't use LLMs to communicate on Wikipedia in future — we'd all really rather talk to you directly rather than an LLM. MCE89 (talk) 06:20, 11 July 2026 (UTC)
SPI records
editHi MCE89, could you confirm whether QwertyZ34 is connected to any sockmaster? I can't find it in the SPI records, but since the account is already blocked, I assume there is a link. Thank you in advance for your help. AriuCH (talk) 17:19, 11 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @AriuCH. Based on the block logs it seems like QwertyZ34 was blocked for operating bad hand sockpuppets (including Sexjididi, Deyygc56.2, Deyygc56 and SsssdAB) and for logged-out vandalism. They were blocked outside of SPI, and it doesn't look like there is a known connection to any older sockmaster. Let me know if that answers your question — you could also try checking with the blocking checkuser if needed, as they might be able to give you a fuller answer. MCE89 (talk) 17:41, 11 July 2026 (UTC)
editArticles for Creation backlog drive
edit
Hello MCE89:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in August!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than a month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 August 2026 through 31 August 2026.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 5000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:37, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
Your request for adminship
editHi MCE89, I have closed your request for adminship as successful. Congratulations!
As always, the administrators' reading list is worth reading and the new admin help pages are most certainly available if you feel that you might require some practice with the tools in a safe environment prior to applying them elsewhere on the project. And there are plenty of fellow admins to ask for help from if you require it. Good luck! Acalamari 01:05, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
A baton for you!
edit| The admin baton! | |
|
... or, well, one half of it. You see, when it learned that two new administrators had been elected at the same time, it got so excited that it broke in two. Alarmed, I asked it if it was okay, but it said to me, "As was prophesized in revision histories before the dawn of MediaWiki, the years of being held in worthy hands have granted me the ancient power of reversion. In the light of the next newly minted mop, shining with the power of community consensus, I will be reforged. Also, I'm good, dude; I'm a baton." I asked the baton how it was able to talk, not to mention how it had linked a spoken phrase, but it was WikiBroken, and was already on WikiBreak. I suppose we may never know. And so I humbly bring you this half of the fabled baton to continue its long line of succession. Just as you and Staraction ran the gauntlet together, so you are bound to run your leg of this race together too. And when the time comes, bring the two (incredibly realistic) halves together, pass it on, and fulfil the prophecy. |
In all seriousness, though, congratulations! I am incredibly excited to see all the good work you'll be doing with a mop in hand. —TechnoSquirrel69 (talk) 05:29, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the baton and the kind words @TechnoSquirrel69! Hopefully it won't be too long until Staraction and I can bring the two halves back together again :) MCE89 (talk) 20:37, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
new user/student hoping to expand on Australian literature articles
editHi there!
I'm a creative writing student at Curtin University, and I am passionate about filling the gaps on contemporary Australian literature (or OzLit) on wikipedia. I am particularly interested in in Western Australian literature.
I have started with a page for Patrick Marlborough's Nock Loose'' seeing as it was recently shortlisted for the WA Premier's Prize, and received so much media attention.
Your account was suggested as one that keeps track of Australian literature entries. I have drafted up this page, and submitted it for review. Could you tell me if it is within the parameters? thank you (for your patience, I am new to this!)
