At least one page attempts to provide an Wu Chinese IPA transcription, but only has a romanization field, so uses that, despite the IPA not being a romanization. Please add the parameter {wi}, with a link to Help:IPA/Wu Chinese, like this:
| header20 = {{#if:{}{}{}{} | {{#ifeq: {} | no | | Wu }} }}
| label21 = {{engvar|defaultWord=Romanization |defaultLang=en-US |en-US=Romanization |us=Romanization | gb=Romanisation |engvar={} }}
| data21 = {}
| label22 = Shanghainese<br> {{engvar|defaultWord=Romanization |defaultLang=en-US |en-US=Romanization |us=Romanization | gb=Romanisation |engvar={} }}
| data22 = {}
| label23 = Wenzhounese<br> {{engvar|defaultWord=Romanization |defaultLang=en-US |en-US=Romanization |us=Romanization | gb=Romanisation |engvar={} }}
| data23 = {}
| label24 = Suzhounese
| data24 = {}
| label25 = IPA
| data25 = {}
This change means adding {} to the first line, and adding the two lines at the end. Ookap (talk) 08:38, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- Wungiu (param name: "wgn") should also be added (I'd say as a replacement of " long-short romanization" {lmz) which seemed to originate form a deleted Wikipedia article) as per my previous request on Template talk:Infobox Chinese#Edit request 29 December 2024. MSG17 (talk) 09:00, 29 November 2025 (UTC)

- ? My request on Template talk:Infobox Chinese#Edit request 29 December 2024 was completed. This is technically necessary in order to acheive that. There are pages where wugniu support is broken since they use the "child=yes" flag (ex. Myth of Love). Tbh if the changes could be better reflected or the templates even merged that would solve a lot of issues but that's complicated. MSG17 (talk) 08:09, 24 December 2025 (UTC)

Wu Chinese label fix: Currently the Wugniu label (wgn =) does not work properly. When it is the only Wu Chinese label provided, it does not appear in the infobox. It, however, does appear alongside other Wu Chinese romanisations if they are provided. Could this be fixed? Thanks!
ND381 (talk) 18:58, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
It seems that the fix, from observing Module:Infobox multi-lingual name/data#L-130 and Module:Infobox multi-lingual name#L-162, should be as follows:
| − | if any_set ({args. | + | if any_set ({args.wgn, args.wuu, args.ouji, args.suz, args.wi}) then |
@Pppery and MSG17: (pinging because of ), please verify. Fish bowl (talk) 20:32, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
- I have nothing specific to say here - I have no memory of having made than 2025 edit, and don't know much at all about Chinese names. Most likely I saw MSG17 to know what they are doing. * Pppery * it has begun... 20:38, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Fish bowl Did you removee "args.lmz" from that list on purpose? Toadspike [Talk] 09:50, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- "lmz" refers to "long short romanization" which I noted didn't really seem to exist outside of Wikipedia in my previous request and thus I asked for its removal in favor of the more common Wugniu. Good catch by Fish bowl to see where the refs need to be updated. There is also another subtemplate that needs to be updated, I put in a request there a while back. Not done for now: please make the required changes to Module:Infobox multi-lingual name/sandbox and if possible check they have the desired effect — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:45, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- Verified at / . I also note that there is a typo in Module:Infobox multi-lingual name/data that should also be addressed:
− {'[Help:IPA/Wu Chinese|IPA]]', 'wi'},+ {'IPA', 'wi'},- Fish bowl (talk) 21:17, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

This is an edit request to Template:Chinese, which is a template-protected redirect with a talk page that redirects here, making this the only venue for the request. I'm asking for this because the redirect for discussion message there is transcluding onto about 4,000 pages with some unintended consequences that people have begun asking for help to fix. ⹃Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 06:47, 6 June 2026 (UTC)

Hainanese Transliteration Scheme romanisation
editCan the Hainanese Transliteration Scheme romanisation be added for use in the template? It would be quite helpful for hainanese related pages. Warpswitch (talk) 15:21, 19 June 2026 (UTC)

Should just be a quick one: Wugniu is spelt wrong in the template. Thanks!
- Where, specifically? I am seeing many instances of "Wugniu", which is the way that it is spelled at Romanization of Wu Chinese. What is the incorrect spelling, and where does it appear? – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:57, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- Never mind. I found and fixed "Wungiu" in Module:Infobox multi-lingual name/data, which probably fixed the reported issue. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:15, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
Xiang romanisation or IPA?
editThe documentation for |hsn= states that it's for Xiang romanization
, however the label of the displayed infobox labels it as "IPA". Is it intended only for IPA or not? If IPA is intended, the infobox needs to be amended to treat the input as such. Presently, |hsn= is not coded like |mi= (which is intended for IPA), which is resulting in Changsha Kingdom producing an error because the IPA includes a tie diacritic, producing a transliteration template error. The same article also has an example of |mi= with the same tie diacritic, but no error is produced because it's correctly treated as IPA not a general romanisation. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 15:03, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
Category:Transliteration template errors
editAs of right now, all the articles in Category:Transliteration template errors (with one exception, namely Shan alphabet) are there due issues with the formatting of romanisations/IPA transcriptions in Infobox Chinese, similar to the issue I noted with § Xiang romanisation or IPA?. I'm not sure how best to fix these, but it seems either the template needs to be amended or the documentation clarified regarding how to appropriately fill in the infobox. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 01:57, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
