Hi! I'm trying to see what the Japanese text in File:Many ways in which New Yorkers say "Merry Christmas" or its equivalent. LOC 3797854913.jpg is transcribed as. I tried using text grabbing programs but they couldn't grab any text. I am not sure if this is Hiragana or classical text or sensical text ... ? WhisperToMe (talk) 21:23, 21 June 2026 (UTC)

I am fairly sure it is:

クリスマス御目出たふ

where 'me-de-ta-fu' is the old orthography for medetō, so

Kurisumasu omedetō

The ending is in old kana form, which a random website says should be たう (ta-u); I cannot really resolve the た, but the last is fairly clearly ふ not う. Imaginatorium (talk) 04:25, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

1991 Asian Men's Handball Championships

Hello,

I found this source ("?? title ??" (PDF). "Handball" magazine (313). October 1991.) from the Japan Handball Association about both 1991 Asian Men's Handball Championship (p. 4 to 7) and 1991 Asian Women's Handball Championship (p. 8 to 9).

I don't understand anything in Japanese (actually, I'm French, and consequently my English is not perfect, sorry) so I'm just able to understand the numbers and latin letters . So I'm looking for help about:

• give the appropriate title given on page 1
• looking at the number, I found most of the games but some scores seems wrong in both tournaments, but I'm not sure my corrections of the article are 100% appropriate since I cannot be sure it's the correct teams...
• what question me the most is on p.7: first table is the Gold medal match, but in the 2nd table, we can see Japan played Bahrein (group I, 25-21), Qatar (group I, 24-10 instead of 24-16 in Wikipedia, 24-10 also on p.5), Kuwait (group I, 25-19) and China (semi-final, 26-18) but there is two new games against Saudi Arabia (28-8, which is the score between China and Saudi Arabia in group A) and Taipei (29-16, which is the score between China and Taipei in group A). I don't get it...
• to add the list of the medallists, would it possible to have the list of the Japanese players (1 to 16)? Some may be listed here.
• is there other encyclopaedic pieces of information about for instance the top scorer(s), a all-star team, etc.?

Japan articles without sources, 2011

Greetings, For Category:Articles lacking sources from October 2011 as of today there are about 68thirty (30) "Station" (railway) articles and an additional 12 "District" articles; all needing improvement with one or more sources to establish notability. Today, I corrected above article count, and add Category:Articles lacking sources from November 2011 with 30 articles that I found. For Category:Articles lacking sources from December 2011 I found 12 more articles.

Also in my wanderings around Wikipedia, I see WikiProject Trains in Japan so at that Talk, I will add a wikilink to here. Perhaps editors there may also help adding references to these station articles. Regards, JoeNMLC (talk) 20:04, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

Keiko Fujimori's name

Hi! Please see Talk:Keiko_Fujimori on the possibility of her kanji name (source article in Japanese is here). I left a comment, but I'd like to double-check if this is a correct Google Translation. It seems that a set of kanji is her most likely kanji name, but not sure if it is confirmed? WhisperToMe (talk) 21:55, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

The Asahi article is lightly casting doubt on the legitimacy of the possible kanji name rather than reporting it as fact. A broader search doesn't give any particular reason to think she has an "official kanji name". Dekimasuよ! 04:36, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
