so much for holding out

Does Fullmetal Alchemist stop repeating that law eventually? For a show that seems to delight in not telling us any more than it absolutely has to at any given point, I could stand to hear the law a hell of a lot less. It's not nearly as amusing as "I came to Chicago..." and that first lesson? Really kinda stuck, thanks.

Yes, I'm watching. Just saw eps one and two. Subtitled, I feel I should say, not dubbed. Ed fascinates me when he's not having height issues. Al is a sweetie, with that voice, oh, but it would probably hurt to hug him. After seeing the end of ep two, I miss Dream. And the theme song is freaking me out. Happy happy joy joy with this, wtf?

Anyway, I'm interested enough that I'm working on acquiring the rest, but unless someone has a secret stash they're willing to share, it's slow going.

In other news:

* Drivers in this area still suck. A lot. And then even more.

* I was afraid of the band saw only slightly less than of the sewing machine. Don't depend on me to build the boat.

Oooh! Oooh! Want me to send you the rest? *waves DVDs at you temptingly* Just send me your address, and I'll see what I can do. :)

I even downloaded a DVD-rip version of the movie recently, so you can have the *whole* series ready for you, if you'd like!

I'm very interested in having someone to discuss the similarities and differences between the brotherly pair of Ed and Al, and the Winchester brothers -- because they are both pairs of brothers who are very close to each other, and yet they are still so *different*, in so many ways.

Of course, I should really finish watching FMA myself, first. I got stuck at around episode 35 or so a while ago (after watching the first 35 episodes in one big gulp, in about 3 days), and I still haven't watched the rest... I've been meaning to finish watching the rest, but I got distracted by Supernatural, instead.

Also, as a subtitle snob, I wanted to tell you that I heartily approve of you watching the subtitled version. Dubbed versions of anime just never sounds *right*, to me!

Anyway, I look forward to reading more about your reaction to FMA. :)

What, even more than in Boston?! That's... sort of hard to imagine, isn't it...

I would love! But! The post office doesn't like me these days. They keep losing my stuff. Someone in Milwaukee could end up with Ed and Al, and I'd just cry.

Hmmm, will e-mail you.

And heh, I've already had the "Not Dean and Sam" thought. I've had enough of that thought, actually, that I could spit out a post on that now...but I think I should see more than two episodes.

You have NO idea. In Boston, there are rules; you have to learn to follow them, but everyone is working with the same set. In the DC area, everyone seems to think it's "Anything Goes," which, OMG QUIT BEING AN ASSHOLE OR GET OFF MY ROAD.

Heh. I think Katya's got me covered. But hold onto that thought.

Does Fullmetal Alchemist stop repeating that law eventually?

No, not really. In a way, the whole series is about that law. But I'm psyched you're watching it; I liked it a lot. Dear Al. And though I didn't love Ed in the beginning, I did by the end, very much. He exemplifies the advantages of working with a teenaged protagonist; I can sympathize with their occasional idiocy, rather than wanting to shout "oh my God, snap out of it!" at the screen. (Well, okay, a couple of times.)

Yeah, kinda figured it was the "point," but still... Ah well, I'll roll with it. It really isn't as much fun as the "trail of my father's killer, blah, blah" line, though.

I'm already having to remind myself that they're, what, fifteen and fourteen at this point? They behave a lot older most of the time, and damn, the artists aren't entirely drawing Ed like a fifteen-year-old; I had a very bad thought when he was chained up on the wall, and immediately hit myself, because omgwrong. On so many levels. Damn you, fandom. Still that dichotomy is part of what fascinates me: they are both experienced far past their age, but they are that young.

Nope, the law continues throughout, but it's pretty much the backbone of the world.
I love the initial theme song. It changes later on, sadly.

Ed, I loved from the beginning. Poor little bean-boy, it's so much fun to see him blow up. Al is adorable.

Episodes 1-2 - you're in Lior, right? Hmmmm....

You know, Katya gave me the disks, and I watched them faithfully and fell in love, but she's never seen the complete series herself. *gives Katya a look.

Also, I'm watching Supernatural, and am much more favorably inclined now than I was the first time I tried. First episode was extremely creepy, as was the third. I'm becoming fond of the Brothers Grim/Grin.

I'm becoming fond of the Brothers Grim/Grin

Hee! So which one is Grim and which one is Grin? *points to icon* I'll have you know that Sam has a really nice smile! He's not always grim! So there! :P

Oh, and Eli -- I also have the soundtrack to FMA, if you'd like it. It has this song on it that is sung completely in Russian -- real Russian, not the kind they have in movies here sometimes, where it's supposed to sound like Russian but really makes no sense. It was all about two brothers, and forgiveness. I was amazed when I heard it, because I never noticed it on the show itself...

I can send that to you as well, if you'd like...

(Yes, for someone who hasn't even finished the series yet, I have a surprising amount of stuff for it. I even have these little dolls of most of the main characters. The Al of the set is the cutest thing ever -- he's hugging a kitten to himself, and he looks adorable! Who knew a suit of armor could be so lovable?! ;) )

(OK, yes. I'm a big dork. I admit it... *hides in embarrassment*)

[identity profile] elishavah.livejournal.com 2006-06-27 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, in Lior. With the priest and the town full of people who I really kind of understand Ed's frustration with and disdain for, because it's sad that they're that unable to believe in themselves. But at the same time, it's hardly an uncommon situation.

Hm, I might do a real "impressions so far post." I'm finding myself wanting to babble.

And yay! Supernatural! Just saw your post about Bloody Mary from last night (catching up on the flist). ::pets you:: That one gets a lot of people, apparently. But just remember -- the scary is dealt with each week, it's just sort of there, the important stuff is the rest of it, the Winchesters. They are the point of SPN and they are so worth it.

I'm going to actually watch the episode tonight. I stopped before the teaser was halfway over to write that post. *is comforted by petting*

Babble all you like! The boys are awfully fun when Ed's not beady-eyed with rage - and then, too, kind of. *g*
