Katara was used to the cold, a girl from the South Pole? Cold was her thing, her comfort zone. As a Waterbender, she was used to playing with frozen water like it was nothing. She could deal with it much, much better than any other weather, like it was her natural habitat. The freezing air that felt like needles stabbing your lungs, it was nice.
However, don’t be a fool, it didn’t mean she didn’t enjoy comfortable warmth. Winter nights in the Earth Kingdom weren’t nearly as cold as back home, it didn’t even snow in most of them from her experience so far. The coldest nights were comfortable like the average afternoon in the South Pole. As far as she could tell, it only snowed at the top of the tallest mountains. But it was still a little rainy, maybe it was all that humid weather that made it worse than back home.
She wasn’t too proud to not accept a little bit of help, alone, lost in the middle of this land she knew nothing about? Help was welcomed. She wasn’t quite alone, but: her companion wasn’t very talk-y. Alone with a mythical being that communicated via noises like growls and with flickers of her tail made it a little hard.
When the stupid dragon she got herself stuck with (who thought exploring the abandoned ship would lead to her befriending an overgrown lizard?) stared at her for minutes before huffing, Katara accepted her fate. How the dragon said let me keep you warm with a huff and a stare of bronze was a mystery, maybe Katara should find a specialist in dragons to ask if they can communicate through their thoughts.
(But how you find a specialist in an extinct species? Katara wasn’t sure how there was a pup of said species living in the South!
She assumed Blue was a pup, not that Katara knew enough to classify a dragon’s age by looking at it.)
Katara took five seconds to decide that the fate of being wrapped by a lethal lizard was better than shivering all night. She also thought it was probably nice to have an original Firebender keeping you warm. There was something like insufferable smugness in her bronze eyes when Katara accepted the offer. Even then, she didn’t hesitate begore curling around the Waterbender.
It was weirdly nice to cuddle with a specimen of a (apparently not quite) extinct species.
