Heart of the Cards

[Players: mai_lovely]
[Scene: With every card holds a name, and with every name a story. Backdated to Wednesday, December 9th, 2009.]

Mai had been taught that one of the most important pieces of correspondence one could send was the Christmas card. Not a holiday card, as her mother would gripe in this age of political correctness, Collapse )

From tragic_elegance: Thank you, DE! Thank you for making me write, and making me want to write. I wouldn't have to stop with Mai for a while if it weren't for you. Funny world. ^_^ I'm actually getting sad writing this.
Feel free to ask about using the Phoenix in later posts in dopplereffected, as well.
To everyone in the group, you are all amazing people and I'm glad to have worked with you. I'm not going anywhere on LJ, so I'll see you all soon. ♥ ♥ ♥

Thanksgivings And Taking It In

[Players: mai_lovely]
[Scene: Mai opens a new door. Backdated to Monday, November 22nd, 2009.]

Mai tiptoed into the room. The decor of soft pink, pastel yellow and white made her feel like she was back in her grade-school dance classes taking steps across the parquet floor. The door creaked in tandem with the beams of the rocking chair that was in the corner of the room Collapse )

Välkommen till IKEA, Part 3-B

[Players: serenityw and mai_lovely]
[Scene: Finishing off a few loose ends, our ladies of the Phoenix Rising spend some time dealing with the aftermath of their recent Ikea trip, Home Improvement style. Nuts, bolts, histories, and hot tea; they've got their work cut out for them... Backdated to June 20, 2008.]
[Part A is linked here (at DE2)]

Friday afternoon, June 20th, 2008, 1:30PM

Mai slipped off her shoes and started to put them in the side entryway closet. Her purse hastily thrown on the kitchen counter, she ushered Serenity into her mostly-kept-yet-tiny foyer. "Can I take your bag?" she asked as she looked around the room for stray objects that had slipped through her cleaning the night before.

Thank you and goodnight.

With Scylla's official closing notice up on our profile, I feel it's safe to post here as an OOC aside and ask everyone to read the post that I've just made in Domino Daily.

Thank you all for a lovely run. To those of you who choose not to continue on with us - thank you for your time and energy and interest and entertainment and love. To those of us whom I'll be seeing again at dopplereffected, thank you for all of the above as well as your continued interest.

I want to ask again that no one delete their character journals, nor remove those journals' memberships in Domino Effect. We are moving to a new community so as to preserve the Domino Effect as an archive of four wonderful years of roleplay. You are of course free to continue using your character journals for other uses, or at the Doppler Effect, if you so choose. If you are going to continue to the Doppler Effect, I would ask that you DO make sure to maintain the same character journal - there will be no restarting of character history, and so restarting the journals wouldn't be necessary either.

Whatever you all decide, as one of the founding trio of this game and as one of your friends, I want to thank you for a beautiful run. I've learned so much, felt so much, and lived so much, thanks to Joey's entrance into my life. And thanks to all of you, players and characters alike.

Sincerely, thank you, to every single one of you, from the bottom of my heart.

Myself

(no subject)

(( Past date post, OC post, Television Channel))

Flipping through the channels, the station lands on the news with the worried face of the local Anchor, a handsome man in his 40's. His voice is dark with grave words.

June Someteenth

[The Players: serenityw, joey_wheeler
The Scene: Just an evening together. Backdated to Wednesday, June 17th, 2009]

"Here."

Joey passed a steaming mug of coffee over his sister's shoulder and into her hands, balancing his own as he settled onto the floor next to her. A thick white area rug, some sort of cross between cotton loop and shag fur which made up for its questionable style by being both fluffy-soft and cheap, covered most of the cool hardwood floor, and cushioned both twins as they sat informally in the center of Joey's small living room. His "formal" seating arrangements - large beanbag chairs - were pushed to the wall opposite the windows, behind the twins as they both basked in late afternoon sunlight. The steam rose in heavy white curls from the deep brown surface of their coffee, the twin black mugs (simple narrow affairs, also on sale) hot against their palms. The silence, which was termed such only by city standards, which allowed for regularly perforations by the bleat of horns and alarm clocks, the clatter of fire escapes and bicycles, was familiar, and should have been - but wasn't - comforting.

Välkommen till IKEA (part 2 of 3)

[Players: serenityw and mai_lovely]
[Scene: Oh, the slings and arrows of outrageous retail! (for those of us who don't have a fortune and have to shop on the economy, as it were.) Our ladies head out to the Brooklyn Redhook Ikea on Grand Opening day and wade through a mob of fellow shoppers, seeking treasure in the form of household goods. Will they survive? Will Ikea? Will they return sounding like the Swedish Chef from the Muppet Show? We shall see. Backdated to June 18, 2008.]
Part 1; Part 3.

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

"Beard 'n Otsego," announced the bus driver, a heavyset man with an equally heavy chunk of Brooklynese in his drawl. "You want Ikea, this's your stop. If," he added unnecessarily as he bumped the curb, "y'couldn't tell'r something."

Not... likely, thought Serenity as the doors accordioned open. Not unless you were blind. Collapse )

Välkommen till IKEA! [part 1 of 3]

Players:serenityw and mai_lovely
Scene: Mai and Serenity arrange an outing to the newest Ikea store in town, shop around, and help each other in the building of their fine Swedish furniture.

Part 1 . Part 2 . Part 3

It had been a lively night, and Mai Valentine was still carrying all the energy of the crowds through her cleaning rituals. Everything was falling into place, like laying silver pieces into velvet-lined cases. It had been a rare night where just the girls were handling the Phoenix Rising, and so Greta and their newest recruit Serenity were shifting around boxes in the stockroom and taking care of the tables, respectively. She was making the bar neat for the next evening's opening, and currently was stacking shot glasses.

Greta emerged from the back room. "I've gotten everything rearranged. I put a small box of the wings in with the mozzarella sticks to make sure that things would fit."

"That's fine," Mai smiled. "You remember you're on the schedule for Friday?"

"I was just about to remember that," Collapse )
Redraw the world

In Through The Out Door (with apologies to Led Zeppelin)

[Players: serenityw  and a handful of family who've just left, plus the first face-to-face introduction of NPC Vicki Li, Serenity's old college room-mate.]
[Scene: They say that three moves are equal in stress to one death in the family. Who knows? But everybody needs a place for their stuff, even if it's five floors up and the elevator doesn't work. Backdated to November 22, 2007, and hopefully this'll be the last 2007 entry for Red. We'll see.]

Thursday evening, November 22, 2007

Anybody who's ever had to move into a new place that, God forbid, is any amount of stories above ground-level knows exactly how what began as 'just a few boxes' can breed like cockroaches in a dumpster. There's the stuff you need right now, and it's in a box; and there's the stuff you'll probably need later, and it's in a box too. And then there's the stuff you're using, and it's not in a box, it's strewn all over your living space, so you get an empty box (or several, it's almost always several) and cram it in at random. And then, taaa daaaah! you've got moooore boxes.
