Pool Party
This past Saturday was the pool party at Lori and Rich's house.
We dropped Delaney off at my parent's house, and then headed off to the party and arrived just a little before 2:30 PM. Thank goodness the weather was just a bit cooler than this past week. I think it only made it up to about 95 Saturday.
Jack was all psyched up about going to a "pool party." We had told him about it Friday evening, and he talked about nothing else until we arrived at Rich and Lori's house. "Hurry and wake up" he told me yesterday morning "so we can go to the pool party."
When it was actually time to get into the water, it was a slightly different story. I sprayed sunscreen all over him (last thing I want in this world is a sunburned 3 year old), and then helped him sit on the to step of the shallow end of the pool. Once I got into the water with him, he latched onto me like a baby monkey clinging to its mama. He wanted to go into the deeper water, but not unless I was firmly attached to him in some manner. I put him on my back and waded all around the pool, and when we got to the far end I put him on my shoulders and dipped myself down to where I just had my head above water. To get him more comfortable, I dunked myself under water, but made sure that the water never came higher than his neck.
After acclimating to being in the water, I pot his inflatable arm bands onto him, and set him up with a floating ring in the shalow end. He and Alex Jones had a blast floating around and climbing onto a giant air mattress. They also managed to drag out every water and pool toy that Rich and Lori had on hand. The squirt guns were their favorites. He quickly became comfortable being in the water, and was tooling all around the pool.
At 6 PM, I packed Jack and Alex into the car and drove them back to our house. Brook came over to babysit them for the remainder of the evening. Karen and I figured that it would be better for him to be at home having fun, rather than us having to worry where he was in the pool after it got dark. Safer for him, and a chance for Karen and I to relax and chill out with the adults for a while.
We only stayed until a little after 10 PM, and then went to my parents to pick up Dini. She was asleep on my mom's belly when we got there, and we scooped her up and put her in the car for the ride home. When we got home, Jack and Alex were still up and playing. Brandy and Aaron got there about half an hour later to pick Alex up.
We must be getting old, because even though it was only a little after 11 PM by that point, Karen and I were both exhausted and tired. Surprisingly enough, I managed not to get sunburned. I had only applied sunscreen once, but it seemed to do the trick. My shoulders are a bit red, but nothing uncomfortable. And as for my head... I shaved it smooth before we left for the party, but while it was full out hot and sunny, I kept a wet ball cap on my head for most of the time. I only let it shine bare in the sun for about 3o minutes to 45 minutes, and then kept the cap off once the sun started to set after about 5 PM. I got some good color, but no burn.
One of the best things of having a pool party at Lori and Rich's house? They have a salt water pool, so I can be in the water all I want without having to worry about chlorine getting into my eyes and nose and making me swell up. It makes being able to hang out with our friends all the better.
