In case you were unaware (which seems unlikely), Microsoft has the most useless customer support ever. Arthur is currently experiencing this problem, where the wireless doesn't work when he comes out of hibernation, and apparently the only way to get the hotfix is to contact Microsoft support and get them to like, email it to you. I ask you: what the shit is this?

In other news, I fail at life! Yay!

One complete system restore later, my computer is working again. If that experience has taught me one thing, it's this:

...

Yeah. Here's the thing: I have no idea what caused it. I had no viruses, no spyware, nothing -- but my computer wouldn't boot up and I would continually get messages saying reassuring things like, "A system process that should never fail has failed", along with errors that translated to, "Your system is fucked; reinstall."

Anyway, back in business now. And I'm afraid to do ANYTHING, because what if it makes my computer go kablammo again? Can I really justify installing bittorrent? Stealing a new version of WinZip? Decisions, decisions.

In the meantime, have some more boring photos. )

...Though probably a more appropriate photo for today would be one of me bashing my head against a wall. Or flushing my computer down the toilet. Oh, Arthur, why do you do this to me?

Question: Is there some sort of program that will take files off your iPod and put them on your harddrive? I ask because I'm probably going to have to reinstall Windows, and I have everything else backed up except my music and I do not want to have to burn it all to disk when it's sitting on my iPod anyway.

eta: Duh. Apple tells me this now actually legit! So, never mind.

To file under things that are fucking awesome:

- my shiny new laptop -- YES THAT'S RIGHT, NO MORE DEVIL COMPUTER; and

- SNAKES ON A PLANE.

And now I'm going to go watch more Band of Brothers, which is, incidentally, also fucking awesome.

My bittorrent ports have suddenly decided not to be open anymore. How am I supposed to steal stuff now? I ask you.

Hi, I really hate technology. Currently waiting 12 hours to download Breakfast on Pluto. (And two and a half for an episode of House, because I'm determined to catch up. kahsdjhasjdgajsgdla)

Exciting new computer problem #59430: the adapter port is loose, or something, because even though it's totally plugged into the wall, my laptop thinks it has to run on battery power. Sometimes. And then sometimes it doesn't.

In other news, P asked me to accompany her to a party tonight, and I really do not want to go. Reason: it's being put on by future members of the Unemployed Philosophers' Guild; that is, there are going to be philosophy students there. Having one for a best friend is bad enough; worse yet would be having to meet more of them. On the other hand, I do hear that Rene Descartes was a drunken old fart, so it may not be all that bad.
