Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you.
--Siebrand11:45, 4 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
Hello, Yuriy75! I came from jpwp's village pump, seeing your translation request. I'm not very good at English, and this epitaph to mourning the war dead is difficult to translate, because it is poetry. But first_one means like that:
our fellow soldiers, resting here
fell down with exhaustion
we build this epitaph
to mourn for them
to pray for peace
on friendships and understandings by ケンタウ citizen
year 1993
by veterans association and supporters
I do not know how to spell (KENTAU). But this means city's name (that is probably where you took the photo). And second one is too long for me to translate into English, sorry.--Yghwtrrl (talk) 12:38, 17 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Although I cannot translate second epitaph, I write the text of it. If you use a machine translation, you may understand the meaning of text.
Our decisions are supposed to be made through our policies and through civil collegial informed discussion. In my opinion informed collegial discussion precludes making nominations for deletion, and not bothering to inform the individuals who might offer a differign opinion.
For your nomination you wrote: "Reproduction of 2D product of the modern artist; false authorship."
Frankly I don't know what this means. I can't know what this means, without seeing the information in the article description template.
I reviewed Commons:Image casebook#Murals and Commons:Freedom of Panorama#Former Soviet Union. I now agree the flickr uploader wasn't authorized to republish their photo of the mural, under Tajikistan's copyright laws. They weren't authorized to place a CC liscense on it, and I wasn't authorized to upload it here.
I still think it was a serious mistake on your part to fail to offer the uploader a courtesy heads-up of the nomination. We are all volunteers here. We can't be expected to know all the rules. I suggest it is a disservice to good faith uploaders to fail to tell them of deletion discussions because those deletion discussions provide important feedback to the good faith uploaders, when they are making good faith mistakes. In the first, I ask you to excuse me if you were offended with this removal. I did not want you as - or to touch with this action.
The tourist in Tadjikistan photographes a fresco in private cafe. The fresco is written at the end of XX or in the beginning of XXI century. Freedom of a panorama here at anything and I am not confident as with it in Tadjikistan. If the photo contained, for example, an interior of cafe it would be possible to argue on freedom of a panorama. But in a photo is only the fresco. Photographing or scanning of pictures, frescos and photos does not give copyrights to the scanning person. The author is alive , or died recently. Аnd only he (or successors) posesses all rights for this work. By rules it even will go on fast removal. Ю. Данилевский (talk) 06:12, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I nominated it, and I think it's high-quality as well. By the way, it's nice to see all your photos of nature around Baikonur; (assuming you are still there) would it be possible for you to photograph any of the House or Indian House Sparrows there might be there? The English Wikipedia could rather use some photos of sparrows in Kazakhstan. —innotata19:37, 4 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for a nomination of my photo. I am while in Baikonur, unfortunately the Internet at me very bad. I hope sometime I will lay out on Commons my photo-archive. Ю. Данилевский (talk) 06:18, 6 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for uploading this one! The bird on the left is a Passer montanus, the bird with the black throat and grey crown is a Passer domesticus, presumably a Passer domesticus bactrianus as I was hoping for, and the other three are Passer domesticus or Passe hispaniolensis. In any case, a useful photo, actually the first I have seen of different sparrow species together. I hope you can post the rest of your photos some time as well. —innotata22:27, 6 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Спасибо.--PereslavlFoto (talk) 15:54, 10 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ain92 (talk) 17:05, 2 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ain92 (talk) 10:48, 3 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ain92 (talk) 10:03, 9 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ain92 (talk) 10:59, 9 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ain92 (talk) 18:43, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Commons:Featured_picture_candidates#Adding a new nomination). Прочитайте также Commons:Featured_picture_candidates#Guidelines for nominators.
Hi Yuriy75, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all occurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.

Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

--83.149.21.92 14:58, 30 January 2013 (UTC)--83.149.21.9214:58, 30 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
This is a deletion request for the community to discuss whether the nominated contents should be kept or deleted. Please voice your opinion in the linked request above. Thank you very much!
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Khatchkar_Met_L.2009.8.jpg
Vahram Mekhitarian (talk) 12:16, 10 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ymblanter (talk) 09:21, 21 September 2013 (UTC) Ymblanter (talk) 09:21, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

--Zavarych (talk) 11:07, 13 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
All of them are in PD because they are screenshots from YouTube videos uploaded with "License Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)". Please check again. --Yerevanci (talk) 16:46, 23 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
User:Yerevanci, please be more careful. The images you list are not Public Domain, they are copyrighted and licensed as CC-BY. If you do not understand the difference, you must learn it before you do anything more on Commons. Start by reading Licensing. . Jim . . . . The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results:
We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).
In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)
We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:
We also sincerely thank to all 4070 voters for participating and we hope you will return for next year's contest in early 2015. We invite you to continue to participate in the Commons community by sharing your work.
Thanks, the Picture of the Year committee

Please stop making DR nominations such as this:
"Outside of COM:SCOPE: commons is not facebook. Personal file of user without other useful contributions."
It is essential that you tell us whether an image is in use or not. If you do not give that information in the nom, the closing Admin has to open the file and check, which takes much longer.. Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 18:32, 2 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
If the image is in use on one of the WPs, even, as you say, on a user page of someone who has done nothing else, then we cannot delete it. It is up to the editors on the WP where it is used to delete the image first. The policy on the subject,
says nothing about the user's other contributions. And, of course, it could be a new user who intends to work on WMF soon, but has not yet started. By deleting his image you will send him away.

- ?? Retired electrician (talk) 16:17, 11 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Ю. Данилевский (talk) 12:55, 14 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Жулики, бутона не доложили ;) Retired electrician (talk) 17:12, 16 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Данилевский (talk) 18:16, 16 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Retired electrician (talk) 18:57, 16 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators.
Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2020, and for sharing your pictures with the whole world! We would like to ask again for a few minutes of your time. Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 200K+ pictures of cultural heritage objects from more than 50 countries around the world.
You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet). To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey.
If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.
In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!
You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in Round 1 of the 2022 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2022.

You have right. The plant grows in botanical garden, misidentified on label. I do not know that species and in the garden it may be anything, including cultivars. I am going to remove the pictures to Category:Unidentified Iris. Thanks. Kenraiz (talk) 20:40, 20 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for uploading File:Станция Крымская, август 2025.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.
Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.
2023 Picture of the Year: Incense plays an important role in Vietnamese life. It is considered as a sacred bridge to connect the visible life of human beings and the world of heaven, earth, and gods. Photo taken in Quang Phu Cau village, on the outskirts of Hanoi, Vietnam. In this picture, incense sticks are being set out to dry, after being dipped in the incense solution.

Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
