Is anyone willing to beta 1,500 words of f/m/m RPF fic about actors? Yeah, actors that no one else writes fic for. It's Lynn Collins/Steven Strait/Taylor Kitsch. Only warning is that it does involve some reference to alcoholism so don't offer if that is a problem for you. Otherwise you hopefully don't have to know too much about anything, just tell me if there's any big problems? Kthnxbye. :)

First, my birthday party is soon! Saturday, October 6, at my house, precise time yet to be determined. Pencil it in, yo! Theme: "I'm not in Europe or Japan."

Next, I need a beta for my [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang fic! It is the X-Men First Class/Darkover crossover fusion AU thing, about 11,000 words (yes, I know, Big Bangs get shorter all the time, kids these days), main pairing Charles/Erik, subsidiary pairings rather all over the place, translates XMFC characters and plot to Darkover, does a bit of pastiche of MZB's style, no explicit sex, both physical and psychic violence and gore, references to sexual assault, ummm, yeah, them's your warnings. I would actually like at least two betas: one who is not familiar with Darkover and can say "half this fic isn't even in English, it makes no sense, what are you talking about here wtf?" and one who is familiar with Darkover and can discuss what I've got right or wrong. (I am having some translation woes, everything from worrying I'm being anachronistic and dragging Rediscovery-era stuff into the Ages of Chaos, to gendering casta words, to worrying about people yelling at me because Erik is not Jewish, because look, it's Darkover, right, the only religious minority is the Cristoforos and trust me, THAT is what would be offensive.) So anyone who likes Charles/Erik and doesn't know Darkover and wants to read a feudal science-fantasy AU thing, please volunteer! And anyone who does know Darkover and maybe also knows XMFC hopefully or if you don't is willing to read what would basically be OC fic and talk to me about the development of the Alton Gift, please volunteer! (Yes, his special psychic power is that he can mindrape you and kill you with his brain.) I have been putting a lot of thought and effort into figuring all this out, but so far I haven't found anyone who wants to talk about it all and can, and final drafts are due in a month and I know only about 3 people will read it once I post it but I really like what I'm doing but I don't know if it makes sense to anyone who's not me and I need a lot of handholding and you've got a month to beta it, please please please volunteer. Yes, I am desperate.

I now have an extra ticket for the Jesus & Mary Chain concert this Sunday in DC, due to someone else dropping out. Anyone want it?

Beta help?

So I wrote 1,600 words of SV/DCU fic about Lex and Kon, and it is... weird. Would anyone look at it and tell me whether it makes any sense at all, please?

Garbage?

I'm looking for a ticket to the Garbage concert at the 9:30 Club on May 23.... Don't suppose anyone has an extra?

My parents are taking off again for a long trip, which means I'm going to be doing another round of house- and cat-sitting for them. And since [personal profile] sansets is also moving out, [personal profile] kinetikatrue and [personal profile] coyotegestalt are looking for two new housemates to move in at the beginning of July. It's a nice big house right in Takoma Park. Contact me or them for details if you are interested.

New Year's?

ciaan: (visions)
I am in need of plans for New Year's. Anyone have any suggestions in the DC area or reasonably close environs?
ciaan: (silly dance)
...but I haven't been paying attention. Anyhow, I'm at my parents' house right now, and my mother was watching So You Think You Can Dance, and suddenly I went, wait wait wait, I know who that dancer is! Isn't that Sasha from Adam Lambert's Glam Nation tour? And then I checked and it was! So I totally voted for her a few times. There's never been anyone on SYTYCD that I knew of already before.

Anyhow, also, I'd still really like someone to beta my Kaldur fic. There are some parts of it I'm unsure about and want to discuss with someone, so I don't want to just post it yet (there are reasons I post so much fic unbetaed, and it's because revision is hard but also because no one loves me and wants to look at my stuff or play my games so I'll just go eat worms).

Beta?

I have one person who has offered to beta my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang fic, but I'd like another, as well. It's J2 space opera AU, just a hair over 20,000 words, and my posting date is July 26. Anyone?

CON.TXT

ciaan: (the way of the world)
I'm going to [community profile] con_txt next weekend (June 18-20) and I was wondering if I could crash in someone's room at the con hotel or otherwise downtown Silver Spring for at least Friday night, maybe also Saturday night. I was planning on just going home to Rockville each night, but a panel I'm modding is scheduled for early Saturday morning, so I'd sorta like to be on hand already then and not have to worry about transport and timing and logistics and so on and the possibility of things being rushed and messing up.

Anyone got space?
ciaan: (W! ASH! ING! TON baby! D.C.!)
Does anyone own/control/have a location in the DC/Baltimore/etc area that we can use as a set for the 48 Hour Film Project this Saturday? Any kind of location is good - a house, a yard, an office, a school, a restaurant, a garage, ANYTHING. We are really short on possibilities so far and if we can't find a place to film then we can't make a movie.

Help please?

FINISHED

Apr. 29th, 2010 10:40 am
ciaan: (Big Bang 2010)
I called in sick to work yesterday and spent the day house cleaning and writing.

The parents are returning on Monday and I have a lot of work to do moving all my stuff upstairs so they can have their bedroom back. I haven't found a new place to live yet and I'm not exactly looking forward to living with them for however long it takes to find somewhere else to move to.

BUT.

I wrote 3,668 words (which is a lot; I rarely get much over 2,000 in a day) and I FINISHED THE ROUGH DRAFT OF MY J2 BIG BANG. It is very rough and needs a lot of revising, and it's only 20,020 words, which is just 20 words over the minimum wordcount so I need to make sure I don't revise it to be too short. I had a bit of panic in the afternoon that I had finished it at about 19,000 words but I pulled up another scene and a half and got it over the minimum.

I'm not sure, I feel it's a little half-assed and I don't love the idea of it the way I normally love things I manage to write 20,000 words on (though I do like the idea), but I'm at the point where I am incapable of judging it at all objectively. Hopefully it is or at least will be okay. I will lay it aside for a few days and then revise it later. The final draft isn't due until June 1. WHATEVER. I AM DONE WITH A 20,000 WORD ROUGH DRAFT. That is \o/. Very much victory arms. IT HAS WORDS. And I turned it in already, two days before deadline.

I have one beta lined up for it already, but I would appreciate a second, as well. Volunteers?

I'm back at work today after getting all last week off on account of SNOW. And a week off work makes me want to be here even less, of course.

SNOW is sad, too, because when I was a kid I would have been SO EXCITED to see three feet of SNOW and I would have immediately run out and started digging a cave inside it. Now it is just cold and wet and I want it to go away. Seriously. We have a buildup of four snowfalls now, it's ludicrous. And supposedly we may get more tonight. Also I had to take my life in my hands to get to work because apparently pedestrian access is pointless and everyone should just walk in the street.

The worst part was last Saturday when the snowpocalypse really started, and the house lost power. Which meant no heat. Which meant all I could do was huddle in bed under the covers to try to stay warm. It was cold and boring and scary. Nothing to do (no TV, no internet, not much light for reading), no way to get anywhere else (no metro, no bus, no roads, and also only the current charge on my cellphone to communicate with anyone), watching the thermometer inside tick down and down to 49 degrees (9.5 degrees celsius) before the power and heat luckily came back later at night. Then the internet was wonky for a while afterward and the TV is still conked out (I think there's too much SNOW on the receiver for the signal to get through, or something was knocked off, or somesuch, but I am NOT climbing on the roof to check).

So with no transportation for most of the week and no one else around and no work, I may or may not have watched S2 of Merlin, S1 and S2 of Torchwood, and most of S1 of the new Doctor Who but I can neither confirm nor deny it what stop looking at me like that I was locked in the house for days on end. I will however confirm that I finished S4 of Friday Night Lights, which I got way behind on when I went to NZ. I am comfortable with where everyone is in that except that I worry for someone whose name rhymes with Jim Higgins.

Speaking of which, I would still appreciate it if someone would beta the FNL fic I wrote. Sigh sigh sigh.

And I learned that Adrianne Palicki and Alan Tudyk are dating which is a REALLY REALLY BIZARRE crossover (though an understandable decision on both their parts).

Now POSSIBLY I can get lunch but since my boss decided to skip out and leave me the only one here it is only a possibility.

In conclusion: SNOW
ciaan: (half-assed)
1. So, in my dream last night, I was back at school or maybe summer camp or something, and I was taking a tumbling class taught by Joss Whedon and his wife. Except most of the people in it were really little kids who'd never heard of him, and only me and Keith [personal profile] idiosyncrarchy were like, hey cool, we're learning gymnastics and wirework from Joss. And Fred (not Amy Acker, no) was one of the demonstrators. There was lots of fun aerial acrobatics. Except I kept tripping and messing things up and Joss thought I was a klutzy failure.

2. Question about SPN: Did Best Buy or anyone do any special extras on the S4 DVDs? I haven't bought them yet and I want to know. (Yes, this question does reveal how little attention I have been paying to stuff.)

3. I recently watched Leverage and I really enjoyed it. It's so adorable and has such snappy cinematography and great dialogue and the characters are all awesome. Except now I'm confused as to whether S2 is actually over or not? I know before I watched it people were making posts about seeing the S2 finale, but then IMDB claims there are 15 episodes in S2 and the rest haven't been aired yet, because I only saw 9, and the most recent one didn't actually seem very finale-esque. Not the way the end of S1 did. So IDK, peeps, is there more to see yet? (Answered!) Because I am totally on board with the rest of you in liking this now.

4. I am trying to keep expectations down for the new season of Friday Night Lights, but they've been playing ads for it on TV and I am getting all excited. Heartbreak's coming, I'm sure.
