Wednesday 6/3/26

It's still pretty quiet around here.

We do have a family of European Starlings who spend all day eating up all the suet I put out. It's cute to see the 2 young ones beg and mom (or dad) comply.

I saw 2 Mute Swan cygnets on the pond. I think there were 3 or 4 originally.

Thursday 5/28

Not too many birds lately, I think it's nesting season. Some Robins, Blue Jays, House Sparrows and a Red bellied Woodpecker. I did catch a quick look at a Wood Thrush in the woods.

It's also snapping turtle egg laying season - she's destroying our garden!

I heard an Eastern Phoebe and saw a pair of Baltimore Orioles.

We have some Blue Jays, House Sparrows and Wild Turkeys hanging around too.

Tuesday

I was away for a week and a half so I haven't posted in awhile.

I found a Robin nest in a tall shrub in our front yard. They fledglings startled me as I was raking up a bit yesterday. I also came across a Mallard mom and 4 ducklings in the pond. A usual group of Blue Jays and House Sparrows have been around the feeders.

The Merlin app said there was a Northern Parula and a Baltimore Oriole around yesterday too. I caught a brief glimpse of the Oriole, but not the Parula.

Despite the cloudy and cool Saturday and rainy and cool Easter Sunday, we had quite a few birds. I think the conditions made the birds pretty hungry.

2 Canada Goose (they have visited almost daily for about 2 weeks now)
1 Wild Turkey
4 Mourning Dove
1 Red-bellied Woodpecker
2 Downy Woodpecker
2 Blue Jay
2 Black-capped Chickadee
1 Tufted Titmouse
1 European Starling
2 American Robin
6 House Sparrow
3 Dark-eyed Junco
1 White-throated Sparrow
5 Common Grackle
4 Northern Cardinal (most I've seen this close together in a while)

Saturday

It is a chilly Saturday morning here.

A nice surprise visitor was a House Finch. The Canada Goose couple has been by almost every day this week.
I had some time yesterday to visit a couple of nearby trails to check for any storm damage. Luckily everything is in good shape.

I had a female Cardinals on the cam feeder earlier.

The Canada Goose couple continues to visit. Dark eyed Juncos are still around, they should be leaving soon.

Friday - First day of spring - although it has felt more like winter most of this week.

Still the days are getting longer and the sun is brighter. We had a pair of Canada Goose come up from the pond to join the other regular visitors today.

Thursday

More signs of spring - all of the blizzard snow has melted and Mallards, Wood Ducks and Canada Goose have returned to the local pond and marsh. The usual Blue Jays, Mourning Doves and House Sparrows are all around.

Tuesday and Wednesday were gorgeous, today we are back to cloudy and cool.

This picture is from Wednesday. Water levels are high with all the melting snow.

Monday

After a cloudy but mild weekend and temperatures in the 60's today we are finally seeing some bare ground and brown grass! Some Blue Jays and Mourning Doves were out this morning and this afternoon I can hear a lot of bird calls outside at work. I hope to get outside tonight!

Monday 2/16/26

A mild day today, I think it got up to around 40. We still have a lot of snow on the ground and a lot of birds. We had a group of 4 Wild Turkeys and we have been 4-8 Deer at a time. The deer are raiding the birds feeders and destroyed some arborvitae I had planted as a living fence.

Blue Jays, House Sparrows, Downy Woodpecker, and House Sparrows were all around today.

Tuesday 2/10/26

The feeders continue to be very busy with all the snow sticking around - Blue Jays, Cardinals, Sparrows and a White breasted Nuthatch.

A nice weekend highlight was spotting a Bald Eagle flying off with a catch in a local cove. Thee agle was seen while driving.

Saturday 2/7/26

More snow today and tons of birds. I must have seen 50 to 75 birds around the feeders, huge flocks of House and Song Sparrows, Blue Jays, Mourning Doves and Red winged Blackbirds plus the other usual visitors like Wrens, Starlings, Cardinals and Woodpeckers.

Thursday 2/5/26

We still have lots of snow and cold. I had to stock up on more bird seed to keep up with demand.

Many Sparrows, Starlings, Blue Jays and Squirrels early today, plus some Juncos, Cardinals and Nuthatches.

Tuesday 2/3/26

The birds continue to mob the feeders, with very little snow melt still.
Highlights today include a mixed flock of Cowbirds and Red Winged Blackbirds, neither of which has been around until today.

I also saw one Red shouldered hawk calling out to another one in the distance.

Monday 1/26/26

Many birds around today looking for food. We ended up with 15 inches of snow. I cleared a ground spot out back to leave some seeds and it was busy all day with House and Song Sparrows, Juncos, Blue Jays, Starlings, Carolina Wren plus Woodpeckers on the suet in the front feeders.

I forgot - also had a huge flock of Mourning Doves, probably about 10 to 12.
