After inheriting polycystic kidney disease (PKD) from her father, Rosie had always faced uncertainty about her family’s future. But attending a Garvan seminar gave her something she hadn’t had before: hope. “They said that in the future they might be able to slow down my disease or turn off the gene,” Rosie says. “I have hope that my son has a life that is not limited by PKD, even if he has inherited my kidneys.” Through Garvan’s Rare Disease Registry, our researchers are working to fast-track diagnosis and targeted therapies – changing lives for families like Rosie’s, now and for future generations. Dan Pooley shared thisWeeks 11 & 12: Chicken Skewers & Homemade Pizza — Kidney-Friendly Cooking Challenge To make up for lost time, this week I cooked two meals back-to-back as part of my 12-week challenge raising funds for PKD Australia: Chicken & Vegetable Skewers with Rice — grilled chicken with capsicum, onion, and zucchini, proving that simple, fresh ingredients can shine without added salt. What surprised me most was how much everyone enjoyed it—healthy, hearty, and so full of flavour that even the leftovers disappeared fast.
