The Godolphin Arabian in our days is, properly speaking, represented by the Melbourne family alone, and in England threatens to become extinct in his male descendants. The most successful stallion of that clan living seems to be Ruy Blas; but this son of West Australian is in France, whither the first winner of that great treble event — or triple crown as it is called — Two Thousand Guineas, Derby, and St Leger was exported.
現代において、Godolphin Arabianは、厳密に言えばMelbourne系のみによってその血統が受け継がれており、イギリスではその父系が絶滅の危機に瀕している。この一族において現存する最も成功した種牡馬はRuy Blasと思われるが、このWest Australianの息子はフランスにいて、偉大なる三つの競走（いわゆる「三冠」）である2000ギニー・ダービー・セントレジャーを初めて制覇した父もそこへ輸出されたのである。
なお『Every horse owners' cyclopedia』は1871年に初版が発行されたが、その時点ではこの「Triple Crown」の記述はなかったと思われる。

West Australian was bred by Mr. Bowes and was from the pure Streatlam blood, his dam Mowerina being a daughter of old Emma, dam of Trustee, Mundig and Cotherstone. His finish as a two-year-old made him the Winter favorite for the Derby, and he not only won that event for Mr. Bowes (the fourth), but was the first colt to win the triple crown of the Two Thousand, Derby, and St. Leger, an achievement only equaled by Gladiateur and Lord Lyon; but West Australian also won the Ascot Cup of 1854, and was probably one of the best race-horses England has ever known.
West Australianはボウズ氏の生産馬で、純粋なストリートラムの名門牝系の出身だった。母Mowerinaは、Trustee・Mundig・Cotherstoneを産んだ名牝Emmaの娘である。2歳時の成績によって、West Australianはダービーの本命馬と目されるようになった。そして実際にボウズ氏に4度目のダービー制覇をもたらしただけでなく、2000ギニー・ダービー・セントレジャーの三冠を史上初めて達成した。この偉業は、その後GladiateurとLord Lyonによって達成されたのみである。さらにWest Australianは1854年のアスコットカップをも制しており、イングランドが生んだ競走馬の中でも屈指の名馬であったと考えられている。

The Alexander-Woodburn farm, at Spring Station, is the classic of the lot and to it must be credited the stallion really best on average in the country this season, Falsetto. King Alfonso, that wonderful improvement on his sire, imported Phaeton and glorious on his own account as the sire of the world-famous Foxhall, also stands here, where, too, may be seen Jamaica dam of the winner of the triple crown of the Grand Prix, the Cesarewitch and Cambridgshire.

この文章では「the Grand Prix（パリ大賞典）」「the Cesarewitch（ロシア皇太子ハンデキャップ）」「Cambridgshire（ケンブリッジシャーハンデキャップ）」の三レースを「Triple Crown」としている点で特徴的である。もちろん当時はまだ凱旋門賞もKGVI&QESも存在しない。

Gladiateur in 1865 had 'swept the board:' he had won 'the triple crown' — the Two Thousand, the Derby, and the St. Leger — as before him West Australian alone had done ; and he had also won the valuable Grand Prix (which was not in existence for 'the West' to win), thus (with minor things which he 'took in his stride') bringing to his owner (in stakes alone) upwards of 26,000£, a sum unprecedented, unequalled, and probably never to be attained again (though Ormonde might have done as well, had he been entered and run for the Grand Prix) by a single horse in a single year.

最近、Webクローラクライアントを作るお仕事が増えた。WebクローラクライアントというのはHTTP(S)を介して様々なファイルをダウンロードして解析し、結果を溜め込むだけのプログラムである。ボットともいう。
クローリングの規模が大きくなると、クロール処理部と結果貯蓄部を分離する必要がある。クローラには様々なものがあるが、ものによっては特定のサーバに集中的にクローリングを行うこともある。このとき、1つのIPを使って集中的にクローリングを行うと、攻撃とみなされ一瞬でbanされてしまう。そこで、一見するとまったく関係なさそうなIPを複数確保し、それぞれにクローラーを仕掛けて走らせるのである。
結果貯蓄部は、要するにデータベースサーバであり、何を使用しても良い。クロール処理部とのやりとりに使用するプロトコルはRDB依存プロトコル(MySQL Socketとか)でもHTTPでもなんでもいいが、とにかくクロール処理部が解析した結果を随時溜め込めるようにしなければいけない。逆に言うと、まぁ、口さえできるのであれば何を使用しても良い。
問題は、クロール処理部に何を使用するかである。おおまかな要件は次の通りである。
これらの要件を満たそうとすると、ぶっちゃけJavaかPythonくらいしか選択肢が無い。

JavaとPythonの違いは山ほどあるが、簡単なことをやらせるだけならPythonはJavaよりも使用メモリが少なくなりがちなので、そういう場面であればPythonは(現時点においては)最強の座に君臨すると考えられる。
