Sonnet -- A West Coast Romance

Two emperors concurrently arose
Whose empires were built of silicon,
And microscopic wires in neat rows
In rooms that hum with cooling fans' numb drone.

Their bitter war for space at home and work
For decades lived in text and bloody minds
Who lust to see the hate they know must lurk
Between such well-matched foes -- men of one kind.

Yet these blood-scenting watchers were deceived;
The diplomatic front hid no rancor.
In the long-standing dance of Bill and Steve
Competition was a friendly anchor.

Conceive the frenzied uproar on the ‘net
Should these two be found together in bed.
