. Naruto Shippuuden: At long last, it ends on episode 500. Hinata as a bride is gorgeous, folks. Oh, and her grace and gentleness when speaking with Iruka. And don't miss out on Naruto's visit to Iruka. There are scenes supposedly from the novels (none of which I've read, boo), probably including the Orochimaru cameo. *side-eyes* A heartwarming/heartbreaking end to the anime.

. Updates to the previous entry's woes:
Customer services have been contacted, and both series streaming and internet connection are okay now.
A new mouse fixes the uncontrollable scrolling on the screen.

. Why Crazy Rich Asians Isn't Really A Win For Diverse Representation.

. Legend of the Candle Condor Heroes 2017 eps 41-44: Way too many candles in this series, even in broad daylight.
We've arrived at that dreaded part, which takes place on Peach Blossom Island. Guo Jing's emotions are more restrained than in the 1983 and 1994 versions, but more violent than in the 2003 version. Yang Xuwen and his voice actor both do a brilliant job.
One scene is missing. Spoiler for those unfamiliar with the story )

Anyway, here's a vid of Li Yitong getting prepared for her scenes and practicing her dancing. The dancing on Peach Blossom Island can be found in the novel's third revision.

1. Someone on Twitter said, "It should be us (the West) who produced the Fullmetal Alchemist and Shingeki no Kyojin live-action movies, not the other way around!" This in response to the news that Lionsgate is producing a live-action Naruto movie. If the cast is all-Asian I might be okay with it. Otherwise, nope.
Next year: 1) the Boruto anime (but what about the currently airing Shippuuden fillers) 2) and a new stage play. We will see Sai! and a super handsome Yamato. And the rest of the Akatsuki?

2. Toei's third Saint Seiya project is a Saintia Shou anime. Girls defending a goddess! There was a lot of eye-rolling from fandom because who needs another mahou shoujo show, right? I say bring on all the glitter and powerful kicks.

3. Rogue One: The story being what it is, it's more closely tied to episodes I-VI than The Force Awakens - there are parts where the audience might feel lost if they know next to nothing about the story's universe beforehand. Sagging middle and unconvincingly written characters alert - unconvincing as in we know what they are, what they want, but these aren't conveyed intensely enough, and through no fault of the actors' either. In general, I enjoyed it, and tiny spoiler )

4. Copy-pasted from my Goodreads review - Liang Yusheng's Legend of the White-Haired Demoness:

7++ stars for the feels this book gave me.
The movies would have you believe that this story is about a woman whose heart is broken because she can't be with the man she loves. LIES. It's the story of a woman versus men's expectations of women. (The women in this book, even the antagonist, accept the titular character as she is) Personality- and martial arts skills-wise, titular character is terrifying. She defeats her opponents almost all the time, recruits other women into her bandit troops, comes and goes into the imperial palace at will, all the while supporting younger women whenever she can. This rankles on men so much they call her a demoness, and she sort of goes along with it, because why not. This might be my favorite Liang Yusheng novel next to San Hua Nuxia. He believes in women finding their own place in the world and standing by their heart and beliefs, for which his writing is one of my #lifegoals.

Added for DW: A male author who believes that a woman owes a man neither love nor forgiveness, even if he has crossed literal mountains and provinces to apologize to her. HELL TO THE YES.

Fandom:

Team 7 vs Kaguya, Naruto Shippuuden: Storm 4 version. No reverse harem no jutsu (duh?), but the "happy birthday, Naruto" scene is there.

The Japanese names for the Nirvana in Fire cast.

Manga-based stage plays/butai:
The Kuroko no Basket official butai page has posted pics of the cast in costume. Riko is handsome like the boys...
Whistle! gets a butai adaptation! I hope the older characters would be in the cast as well.

Kishimoto Masashi will supervise the series about Boruto. They'll never let that man go, will they?

Live Spectacle Naruto is nearly 2.5 hours of manga reenactment. If you're used to anime- or manga-based stage plays, the theatricals wouldn't feel too over the top. The storyline takes the main plot points while lingering on scenes that are supposedly popular with readers.

Screencaps. Not all comments have screencaps, and vice versa )

So I discovered that there are Indonesians who for srs named their kids Uchiha and/or Sasuke. We might see a rise in the Sharingan-using population soon.

The Last: Naruto the Movie: Animation-wise, Production IG vibes are a norm in some Naruto movies, and this is one such movie.
It does a valiant job in explaining how Naruto and Hinata end up together. 9.5 out of 10 for effort, movie. The kiss made me feel like I was watching Disney back in the 1990s.
(Ino is so pretty!)
Naruto and his friends being nineteen, they're in better control of their emotions than in the Shippuuden arc. This is nice to watch.
Flashbacks that sometimes feel like a milder dose of what we seen in Evangelion.
Not sure that's how the moon works, but whatever floats your boat, movie.

Naruto Gaiden: Is Byakugan the new, mini-Tsukuyomi?

. Father vs daughter beatboxing. Ridiculously amazing is what it is.

. Legend of the Condor Heroes 1982 remains so popular, that up to 2010 Felix Wong (Guo Jing) still received royalties (enough to live off from) and got invited to perform in events.

. King of Heroes, a retelling of Journey to the West where the monkey loses his power. Into my to-watch list it goes. The MV might be spoilery.

. Naruto 700+10: Official SasuSaku fanfic. I'm still wrapping my head around Naruto and Sasuke being old men. If this weren't an extra chapter, the story would've covered three manga volumes at least.

Six years and a thousand entries, mostly fannish. Apologies if that isn't what you signed up for :D Have a couple of links.

This one has been making rounds: 23 new words for emotions that we all feel, but can't explain. An inspiration source for titles.

A compilation video of cats and kittens stalking.

. A first look on the 3D maneuver gears in the Shingeki no Kyojin live-action movies. Is this movie going to make Eren/Mikasa canon, because I'm not sure yet how I'd feel about that.
. Additional casts for Boruto: Naruto the Movie. I can totally imagine Ono Kenshou as Shikamaru and Temari's son. Meanwhile, Jiraiya, Itachi, and Sasuke will have their own novels. (When will I be able to write official fanfic too? he)
. If you're a Saint Seiya fan who also likes make-up, here.

[personal profile] shimizu_hitomi is posting mystery genre crash courses. It's a genre I definitely should read more of.
Indonesian detective novelists - there was a detective series once, with police officers as the main characters, but I didn't read it being too young. I did read a YA novel series where middle schoolers solve mysteries. The closest thing available now is a YA thriller series, and the main characters are five girls.

[tumblr.com profile] silverwind kindly scanned various stuff from Live Spectacle Naruto. (I wonder if Kakashi's Icha Icha Paradise has actual content in it.) She said the show was amazing, uwuwuwu.

A website to discover your anime birthday twin(s). I share my birthday with Shaman King's Hana and Whistle!'s Yamaguchi Santa, wut :D
