Magic Kaito will have its own TV series. Will there be an evil organization too?

Mara Wilson vs E.L. James, aka yet another "don't be that author" reminder.

I've had the complete episodes of Sailor Stars for some time and finished watching the final episodes yesterday. Behind a cut in case of spoilers )

I was about to go to bed when the scanlation was released.
Oh, to be Furuya Tooru. )

Meitantei Conan Fan Tohyo Selection: A volume with the five cases that garnered the largest number of readers' votes in 2011.

1. The Twelve Million Hostages. Aoyama watched lots of action movies when he wrote this case, so it plays out like one. Readers' favorite lines are apparently Takagi and Conan's in the elevator.
Takagi: Who are you, really...?
Conan: I'll tell you - but later, in the afterworld.
The other four cases. Spoilers. )

Cindy Pon has another Xia duology out; the first book, Serpentine, comes out on September 15. It's loosely based on the white snake legend. On Goodreads, no cover yet.

Mori Kaoru Shuuishu: The mangaka of Emma and Otoyomegatari fills the volume with various things: one-shots, illustrations she did for magazines, illustrated articles on 19th-century corsets and fireplaces, yonkoma, comics on various topics (Agatha Christie, the Emma anime, signing events). Mori is clearly enjoying herself writing all these ladies and doing the researches for each series. If you like her works, or if you're simply of the "all ladies all the time" school of thought, the volume is recommended.

Saint Seiya The Lost Canvas 11: This volume covers most of the final episodes of the OVAs (Douko acting as a live shield). Degel and Defteros make their debut appearances. *applause all around* No sign yet of the goddess kidnapper.

Meitantei Conan: If you think an author can't pick the actor to be cast as a certain character from the start, two words: Amuro Tooru.
Chapters 891 & 894 have been scanlated; 892 & 893 haven't, but there are translations. Poor Camel :) It seems fandom's popular theory about Okiya Subaru is about to be proven correct.

Bleach: On reread, the Fullbringer arc has more twists than the current one, though that's not saying much. But seriously, the Fullbringers are more interesting than this slew of Quincys that I can barely tell apart. I see where Kubo is going - he's boring everyone to tears so we'd forget about Grimmjow and be all amazed when he finally shows up.
(The only parts that stand out in the current arc involve, not surprisingly, dead women *flips everything*)

Meitantei Conan: Taiketsu Kaitou Kid Hen is a collection of Conan vs Kid cases, but only up to 2004. Bonus: interviews with Takayama Minami and Yamaguchi Kappei, one page each. None of the cases in the book are my favorite, so my only bright spots are Kid's thieves vs detectives quip and Hakuba's first appearance.
Caught up with the scanlations, including the Kid vs Kyougoku case. (Pillars. *sobbing*)
On the latest scanlated case )

Shingeki no Kyojin 8: Different from the anime (duh) and I finally understand the last scene in episode 25 hahaha am so slow.

Shin Tennis no Oujisama: Is licensed here. Since Konomi has dropped all pretenses that the series is about tennis (skeleton pirates...), I'm keeping my distance.

Strange Hero Yi Zhi Mei: Watched the first episode only, so far. Brooding dude with dead woman in his past nearly pushed my "let's get out of here" button. But then the dude assembles a team of superheroes, because justice. And a team of superheroes is one of my narrative kinks. Even if I'm sometimes stuck with writers who aren't fully making use of the superheroes.

Saint Seiya Omega: I watched the finale again and aww-ed at Eden getting a new younger brother. The OP differs from the usual. More Subaru-centric.

Meitantei Conan: Speaking of Subarus, Okiya is like an open invitation to all sorts of wacky theories.

The sign-up post for Book #45 of [livejournal.com profile] imaginarybeasts, Vacations, is up!

What to expect in Sleepy Hollow S2. More John Cho, pls.

Just watched the trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The special effects look so... overwhelming.

Meitantei Conan
. Is there a compilation book for selected Conan vs Kid cases? If so, it seems to be heading toward Indonesian bookstores in early April.
. Regularly appearing ladies who don't master any form of martial arts:
Sonoko. Yukiko. Okino Youko. Haibara? Let's assume everyone from the Japanese police, FBI, CIA, and the black organization has finely honed self-defense skills. Shizuka doesn't have to master any type of martial arts to be scary (but does she?).
. Shouldn't Takayama Minami guest-star again, just because? Or is once enough?
. Furuya Tooru sounds ridiculously young. I really need to catch up with the manga.

1. The Meitantei Conan manga franchise makes it ridiculously easy for someone who wants to do research on the detective genre. It has, for instance, the selected cases books, the Conan vs Men of the Black Organization file book. I read the latter yesterday, which has in it gems like the revelation of Vermouth's disguise from vol. 42 (scary women, helppp. Ran too.) and the very Hollywood blockbuster-like Mizunashi Rena arc.

2. My paid DW account has expired, might reconsider renewing after after the paycheck (ha) arrives. Unless I spend it on books first. Booksss.

3. There might be a separate post for memes later?

4. Bandung, the capital city of West Java, had a new mayor elected last year. His work and passion for a better city have been exemplary. New public parks, free school buses, and tourism buses have been made available in 2013 alone. The mayor manages his own Twitter account, where he posts uplifting tweets about Bandung and reminds citizens to keep their city wonderful.
Then there's the following, profound tweets.
"Sir, people have been carelessly throwing away cigarette butts that are still burning, and I've been struck twice." - "You can throw flowers back at them, with the flowerpots too."
"Please say happy birthday to me. Pleeease!" - "'Happy birthday to me.'"
(Wrt a culinary event)
"Why are there open umbrellas over the parking lot?" - "In case it rains?"
"I was going to go, then I ran into my ex and their new sweetheart, so annoying." - "*pats*"
(Not saying I always agree with his tweets, but a mayor who personally replies when you grumble over your love life (or lack thereof) is a keeper)

May only be of interest to me:

. Via [personal profile] silverwind: Kimura Takuya as Miyamoto Musashi in a TV adaptation of Yoshikawa Eiji's Musashi. [ x ] Ooh. That was my favorite book in early high school. The Indonesian version was translated from the abridged English version; serialized in a newspaper around 1986, then published in a series of seven books; republished in the 2000s in one big volume. Can't wait to see the rest of the cast.

. Is it already the time for a year's-end recap? I don't normally do that, but this year has been particularly eventful.

. Having a blood-spattered Levi on my desktop wallpaper is a great way to get me working. #attackonlaziness

. One of my 2014 resolutions is to catch up with Meitantei Conan, on which I'm scandalously behind. I haven't even read the Kyougoku vs Kid part! Like I said, scandalous.

. Cried several times while reading Natsume Yuujinchou 11, a manga series which has also become part of Research. Subtlety in writing is something I need to practice more.
