I have lots of hobby updates so prepare yourself for a long one :)

I am really bad about making sure I have enough clothes. There's too much backstory to go into why this is, so for now I'll just say it's trauma related. I am trying to get better about this. I picked up two sleeveless button up shirts at Goodwill and two pairs of white socks at Walmart this week which felt really good. Both shirts are cute and summery, but one was all orange and I'm just not an orange person. I picked up a bottle of Fuchsia Rit Dye to pink it up a bit. It ended up pinker than I planned but that's okay!

Before...

After!

I still need to sew the buttons shut because I have Tig Ole Biddies and would rather not give my coworkers a good look at my bra. You can see the other shirt I got at Goodwill a bit in the after shot - it's a pastel rainbow plaid. I did already sew those buttons shut, plus I tacked down the flappy facing so it's ready to go for work wear.

While I had the Menards bucket out for dyeing, I dyed a Modcloth dress I've had for a while. It was a white shirt dress with vertical rainbow stripes. I knew I would dye it eventually. I don't have pictures of this, but I used Violet Rit Dye which made a really excellent color.

I also made some more bracelets with some beads from Fire Mountain Gems and leftovers from Klutz kits. One is a cool toned seed bead mix, the other is a warm toned seed bead mix. Here's the cool toned bracelet:

Finally, I went to the Chicago Toy Show for the first time yesterday! My husband was hoping to go with me but he had to work. This was a real shame because there was a lot of stuff there he would have liked to look at. I ended up getting a wishlist Barbie - the 1985 astronaut Barbie! She's missing the flag and her little bag for moon rocks but that's fine. She was a really good price. I also got an old Cookie Monster plush to add to my Jim Henson collection :)

A few weeks ago my husband and I took a little day trip to visit the Jim Henson Exhibition. It was an incredible and emotional experience and one of the highlights for me was meeting Wilkins and Wontkins

I actually wasn't familiar with Wilkins and Wontkins before visiting the exhibit, but there was just something so cute and simple and geometric about them. I can't explain it, just that the monkeys who pull the levers in my brain really liked them. I actually circled back to look at them a few times. Later that evening my husband and I did some research on the pair and found that they starred in lots of very silly, slapsticky commercials, mostly for the Wilkins coffee company.

Fast forward a few days and some friends of ours come in from out of town. Being that we are all millennials, we spend part of the evening showing each other silly videos on YouTube. I share with the group the aforementioned Wilkins Coffee commercials, show them the photo I took of Wilkins and Wontkins, and explain how much I enjoyed them.

Later that evening, we get a text from one of the friends saying, "Isn't this Wilkins? Would you like him?" and a photo of a very dingy little yellow puppet.

As it turns out, the friend had an uncle who did business with the Wilkins Coffee Company, which is how he got his hands on the puppet. The friend remembered seeing the puppet when he'd visit his aunt and uncle but never knew what it was. The friend and his wife were staying with the friend's aunt while they were in town, and seeing the Wilkins and Wontkins commercials inspired him to see if his aunt still had the puppet and if she'd be willing to part with it. Neither the friend nor his aunt could recall if they had a Wontkins, but said they'd let me know if he should happen to show up.

Here's the Wilkins as he was given to me. Poor dirty Wilkins! He had been splattered with white paint? nail polish?, had red smudges on his legs and face, and was just dirty and dusty as heck.

I had some free time over the holidays and decided I was ready to spruce him up a bit!

Just some Dawn dish soap, a soft rag, and some elbow grease and he's as good as new! Pretty much all of the muck came off with no real effort.

Here's the brand info on his booty:

And I'll end this post with an ad for Wilkins and Wontkins puppets from the November 25, 1958 issue of The Evening Sun in Baltimore, Maryland.
