Lets get ready to ...rock?

Over the years, I've learned what I'm good at. I tend to volunteer in the SCA more in the "Ops" areas of Security, Site, and Main instead of Volunteers and Troll because those are where my talents lie.

At work, I'm a better engineer than an actual admin. I'm the guy who designs all the systems so when they are built (and I do build them, but I'm not as good as some of my employees) they actually work as advertised.

In video games, I'm not bad at RTS and FPS games, but generally don't like multiplayer stuff. I don't have the time, patience, and energy to get fragged over and over just to learn the tiny little ins-and-outs of where to hide to snipe and all that stuff.

Recently, I've found something else that I'm
really
not good at:

wii!

So, about 2 weeks ago, SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) and I are driving around, and I mention I need to get my Xbox 360 back from jirill who'd borrowed it while his was being repaired.

I also mentioned that if she happened to see a Wii, to call me, since virusq's father was looking for one for the Other Daughter.

SWMBO mentions that she'd been thinking (uh oh!) and that it would be ok if we got one, and it could go on the TV (42" plasma) upstairs...she'd decided it seemed fun after playing around with it (and making Miis) a few months earlier at jirill and jayde's place.

So, I'm now the proud owner of a Wii:

quit wow

For those of you that don't know (mostly Max and Gunther) I've quit World of Warcraft.

The guild just wasn't fun anymore, and the new guild rules made it so I was never going to get to play with my friends, so I didn't see much point in sticking around.

As some of you know, my experience with anime...is mostly older than at least one of you. :)

I've been looking for these forever, and don't know why I didn't think of Youtube.

Daicon is (was?) a Japanese anime convention in Japan in the 80s..."Dai" is giant, so its a pun between "Dai Con" (a giant Convention) and "Daicon" (a giant Japanese radish).

A bunch of amateurs made an "opening video" for the conventions.

Daicon III's video was amusing, and amateurish:

Daicon IV's is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I became an ELO fan because of that song:

I've been telling virusq about this forever. I'm glad I found them!

We have an internal mailing list for team members for our THEMIS Instrument. Its entirely a way to let the science team know of data updates and changes. Occasionally someone outside the team gets ahold of the address, and sends to it, but since I know what the hell I'm doing it doesn't get posted, but comes to me. I can decide if its legit (i.e. a real team member posting from another account) or, as in this case, something else...

Hello, all!

Back in England. Amazingly enough, literally around the corner from the hotel we stayed in last time...same Internet cafe, even!

The Intrepid Four (Sandy, Anne/Elspeth, Susan and I) arrived on Tuesday morning (did you know that there was a 6am as well as 6pm?) after a long flight. Pretty empty plane, good flight, somewhat bumpy, and Susan almost murdered the passed out stinky drunk guy behind us, so nothing unusual.

Spent Tuesday mostly recovering, and went to the V&A Museum yesterday and today, finishing up what we didn't see last time Susan and I were here. Cereamics is still closed (Susan pouted) and now Textiles is closed (Sandy pouted).

Tomorrow Sandy and Susan are off to the Tate Museum to the Holbein paintings, Anne is off to do medical research stuff, and I'm off to military museums for some research.

Saturday is SpamAlot, Sunday friends from Bristol are coming into London to spend the afternoon with us.

Cheers!

Because there was all the interest...

It appears that several people have been curious about a posting I made recently in the blogs of a couple of friends.

So, with minor editing, I'm reposting it here publically.

My friends were venting about people being people (i.e. complete asses) and I responded...

Fuck em.

I got sick and tired of doing what *I* knew was the right and honest thing just to watch my name dragged through the mud by lying, backstabbing sycophants with delusions of grandeur who somehow thought that some stupid SCA title/office meant something in the real world.

You are an honest and fair individual. YOU know that.

Fuck everyone else.

I certainly wasn't upset or annoyed with my *friends* -- I know exactly how they feel.

friends only

I went back and made all my journal entries friends only, sorry!

If you are a friend and have an LJ account, let me know via email and I'll add you to my LJ list.
