my mom is now arranging and photographing still lifes. doesn't post them anywhere, just sends them to me on whatsapp.
i didn't even know this was a hobby you could have
my mom has been watching eastern flower arrangement youtube and sending me pics of her efforts
she's also learned to ride a bike, read music and play piano in her early 60s, so apparently you *can* just keep leveling up
so this is about a guy who wishes he'd studied poetry? truly "the second best time is now." i had the same regret, so bought some poetry how-to books in my late 20s, started writing, did a grad program where i was almost always the oldest in the room. am still gainfully employed

a trend i've noticed in women's forums over the past 3-4 years: instead of advising other women in bad relationships to leave because they can definitely find better men, women are now just saying it'd be preferable to be single forever than to languish in a lackluster union
i've been addicted to relationship forums for two decades. i can hear the hooves of the 4 horsemen of relationship apocalypse (criticism, contempt, defensiveness, stonewalling) over vast expanses of dunes. my spiritual body count is over 9000. i rotate mother-in-laws in my head.

as a teen i dressed up as the mask of the red death character from the poe story and went trick or treating, fully expecting no one to get it (r/iamverysmart). at one house what looked to be an eight year old opened the door and said "are you mask of the red death"
can't overstate how important it is to have side quests. during grad school, i set myself a side quest of appearing in a film--ended up with tiny parts in two indie movies. the weird thing is, i never asked/applied for those roles. my secret intention was enough to conjure them
lana's choice is deeply jungian. an alligator wrangler being the masculine, reasonable hero who triumphs over the feminine chaos historically represented by a reptile (the sometimes female-coded serpent in eden, tiamet of babylonian creation myths, st. george and the dragon, etc)
If anyone has a course or regime for rebuilding an attention span shattered by social media, I really want to know about it.
I've been noticing that it's harder for me to focus for long periods of time on specific topics b/c there is always a squirrel

i give up. this is the top voted comment among nytimes readers in response to an article about a literal conspiracy between government officials, nonprofits, scientists, and scientific publications to bury lab leak theory lol
it's not too late for anyone. wishing this man the best not in "turning things around" but in broadening his current path to include more of what he loves
