Aquarium - Plants and the snails
Well, it's been about 2 months since my first semi-serious attempt at fishkeeping. I.E, Trying to keep it a self sustained biosphere with fish that aren't unholy demons of destruction that live for over 10 years. I still miss that crazy goldfish though. So I have a nice little plant, which I don't know the name of, two fat Corydoras, two Glowlight Tetras, five or six guppies and two golden snails.
Two golden snails that won't stop breeding. Over the course of one months they have produced, six egg sacks, two of which have hatched. In fact, one is on the process of hatching while I write this. So I probably have more than two snails in the tank right now, (probably more around 40 or 45) but since they're so small I can't find most of them. It sounds horrible, but I hope most of them get eaten by the Corydoras or the two big snails. My tank's twenty gallons, but I WAS hoping for a fish tank, not a snail tank.
That said, Kamikaze (the snail), has recently gotten a large black mark on his shell. It worries me a bit. I might have to run to the pet store and pick up some test stripes for the water. The PH might be a bit off. Geronimo, seems to be fine though. When I bought them, they were about the size of a quarter. Now, they're golfball sized. Big snails.
The plant is trying it's best to over run my tank. I finally have to cut a few shoots off. It's still really dark in the back of the tank, but after cutting a few branches off, it's brightened up the front of the tank quite nicely. Maybe now I can find all my guppies. I think the corys like the trimming. They're more active since. I might have to trim more of the plant, but we'll see how it does a week from now.
While the corys and tetras seem top be doing fine, I'm a tad worried about the guppy population. I started out with eight guppies. Two of those guppies had babies, and the first generation is all gone now. I can only see five guppies right now and they're still pretty young. If they live, I'll intoduce some new blood in there and maybe they'll breed again.
