What I've been reading latey

A little while ago, I was brosing my Warcraft forums as per usual and I found a link to a thread called, "You awaken in Razorhill." I was blown away. It was started by a guy named Dusk, who mearly wanted to break his writer's block. It turned epic.

It was a merger of Silent Hill and Warcraft and full of various references. He uploaded a clean version on: http://www.thelittlestmurloc.com/i…
Then the original post on the forums: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/…

I'm also patiently awaiting updates on Mutant Ninja Turtles Gaiden. An alternate universe to the orginal Mirage comics. It started out sad and now it's getting freaking creepy.I love it.

I've also been indulging in my Final Fantasy VII obsession and am waiting on updates from JaydeeGrey on FF.net. What's this! Stories where Zack and Cloud are mearly friends!? Yay!

The PSP!Go

Perhaps it's because I'm looking through nostalgia glasses, or because I was a gamer in the early 80's, but the PSP!Go handheld system is somethign I hope fails. And fails hard. Now I have nothing against it's earlier incantation, the PSP1000 through 3000. The screen is nice, the layout is comfortable on the hands and the games are fun.

The !Go version however changes a few things, such as a more compact body with a sliding screen which means it's ugly and crampy on the hands. The big problem with it however? It has no UMD slot. "Hey", says Sony, "No problem, you can download games now! Any games in UMD format that you bought before, you can bring to our store and we'll download it on there for you!"

Great. So I need to get a credit card or buy "points" to play games. Then wait half an hour for the game to download over wireless and hope to god it doesn't disconnect half way through. Then there's the problem with memory. Memory sticks cost upwards of $40 and you might need a few if you're a game colllector. I suppose if they hold a game or three, it's not a bad price, but that's on top of the download price which I admittingly don't know the expense of. Any old games you have as a UMD, you can't play on it. You need to go to a store to play a game you already own or pay for a downloadable version of it. Now, if all goes well, you'll have these games for a long time and be able to enjoy them. Of course, I bought a computer and had to take it to be repaired 3 times in one year. I don't trust my important information in virtual form to stay there anymore. So back up your games!

Oh and it can play music, store pictures and, we presume, take pictures like everything else nowadays. The system isn't due out for probably another year. So who know, maybe I'm just being cranky and poo-pooing something that could be cool.

Don't get me wrong, downloading game demos is great! Or getting games as a download when it's sold out or you can't find it in your country would be incredibly handy. I also imagine it's cheaper to offer games that way, so that you don't spend money on manufacturing.

Personally though, I'd prefer to pickup a game with an actual package, with nice art on it, to store the game and maybe an instruction book for 20 to 40 bucks, depending if I can find a second hand one. Then when I lose or have my system break, I can buy a new one without having to replace my games as well. Or lend games to friends, or just go to a store and buy a game and start playing right away.

By the way Sims3. I see you offering micro-transactions for bedroom sets and hairstyles in your SimStore. For $10 you get 1000 points to spend, eh? Hey, one of the bedrooms sets cost 1450 points! Awesome! Why didn't they include this stuff in the actual game? The store has a lot of stuff in it and the base game feels a bit sparse. Wonder why?

Casual gaming... Bah.

Writer's Block: Gamer's Choice

What is your favorite old-school video game?

How could a gamer like me not answer this particular question? The answer is a great, big, SUPER MARIO BROS. 3!

It wasn't the first game I ever played, nor the oldest I've played, but it certainly is an old favourite from childhood. I was pretty good at it, although I needed a P-Wing to get past the quicksand level with the angry sun. Damn him to hell! I remember never being able to get past the Ice and Pipe levels. I always had to use Warp Whistles to beat the game.

I can beat all the levels in the game now, and eagerly rebought the game for my GameboySP. Nothing beats SMB3 on the train. *thumbs up*

I have hand cramps now.

Note to self, next time Ross and I play Phantasy Star together, bring an alarm clock or something. That's 8 hours we didn't think passed by. Oh well, the weather's been too crazy to do anything else besides play games.

Gah! Curse my foul memory!

WARNING~ I RAMBLE ABOUT OLD CARTOONS AGAIN!

Oh gods, I shouldn't have been looking through old cartoons again. I got to thinking about an old cartoon called The Emperor's Nightingale, which is based off an old fairy tale by a Danish poet. Unfortunally, when I did a search for it, nothing came up. I can't even find screencaps of it. Grah~ Just as frustrating as when I was trying to figure out the name of the show with the green, world-jumping, dog in it. At least when I remembered the name of it I found some art and youtube videos. (It was Fluppies, by the way)

On that note, if anyone knows the name of the show with the red platypus guy and a yellow... animal (was he a duckbill too?).. And they lived on the beach with a few other characters who I can't remember, let me know what the heck it is. I think it was a French or Canadian cartoon.

I dunno. Weird cartoon stuff likes to stick in my head. Like an old Wizard of Oz episode. All I remember is this one guy could turn people into objects and he turned this kid into a object. Dorthy and the others needed the kid so they asked the guy which object he was so they could turn him back. He's a bastard of course and says, "If you can figure out which object he is, touch it, and he will be turned back to flesh. If you are wrong, you will join my collection of rare antiques." So of course everyone screws up except Dorthy, who figures out he was the cat statue. Still, I thought the was the most awesome episode ever. I wish I could watch it again.

Writer's Block: Year of the Ox

Happy Chinese New Year! The Year of the Ox starts today. What is your Chinese zodiac animal? Do you think you fit the description of the sign?

So the Wyndigo be a wood rat. No surprises there, as I've looked it up before.

Wood Rats – Years 1924 and 1984
Not nearly as self-confident as they appear on the surface, Wood Rats will never expose this vulnerability to others. They’re successful despite their perpetual fear of failing. Wood Rats enjoy being with friends and family and fortunately for them, feelings of love and respect are mutual.

It fits me mostly. Then again, who really likes to broadcast their failures? I do love my family and friends and from what I hear, it is quite mutual. Where this zodiac fails however is when I start looking at rats in general. Especially the talkative, full of energy and agressiveness parts. I hate talking in general, I spend most my time sitting on my behind and there is very little that makes me angry. Annoyed maybe, but not rip my hair out mad. The rest of it is so general that I'm sure it would apply to most people, which I'm quite sure is the point. Then I think about MisquE and remember he's the exact same sign as me. Aside from us being total Nerds (with a capital "N") we're not all that simular.

Still, whenever someone brings up the Chinese Zodiac, I always do say with pride that I am a Rat! Because rats are awesome critters! If Alberta wasn't rat-free, I'd so have one as a pet.
Nooo!

Oh, Fanfiction.net...

I've been playing Crisis Core alot. I developed much love for dear ol' Zack. So I've been exploring Fanfiction.net to help extend the Crisis Core feeling.

I am stupid for going to Fanfiction.Net.

Let's look at the first ten fics with the Rated M and Zack filters on, shall we? (Why rated M? I'm okay with torture and graphic violence because I am jerk. Yay!)

Onwards!!!

Thinking about Aquascaping

I know people aren't a major fan of many of my hobbies, but I'm up at 1am reading up on fish and aquascaping. Therefore, you must endure my obsessed ways and hear about it~ Aren't you excited?

http://www.adaaust.com.au/support/…
First of all. Wow. I haven't heard of Amano before, but this guys is a wonderful artist. It really makes me want to try aquascaping.

I'm thinking about trying it in my current tank. I have a few pictures up of how it currently look in my facebook album. I think I'd like to try more of a river type look, because i love the look of brown and green together, plus it leaves some space for my fish to swim around. So I think I might walk down to the local fish store and look around for things I could use, like rocks and substrates. I'm worried I might need CO2 injection if I try a large planted tank. I really want a natural-looking tank though. It might be worth it.

Unfortunally, I have no idea what plants I currently have are called, and no amount of searching has helped. I think one is a Hogwart...

I'm debating wether or not to get a bigger tank. I'd need to find a place for it. Maybe I could buy a "gift" for my parents in the form of fishy goodness.

Anyway, I have 7 Corydoras, 4 Gold Tetras, 3 Neons, 1 Glowlight and 3 Apple Snails. The snails of course are laying eggs everywhere. I've been peeling them off though. Even with all the fish, I've been keeping the ammonia and nitrates under control, thank goodness.

Writer's Block: On Character Preferences

Who is your favorite fictional character? Why do you love them? What fictional character bugs you?

My current favourite fictional character... Hopefully, this isn't coming as a surprise to anyone! That honor is going to non-other than:

Scrooge McDuck!

But isn't he a capitalist, money hungry, irritable bastard?! Well, that's part of it. It's certainly what one might think when you hear about him. However, Scrooge made his money by "being tougher than the thoughies and sharper than the sharpies!" And he made it square. He didn't inherit his money or have it handed to him. He worked his whole life to get his money and it was hard. When Scrooge was younger, he spent his days as a cowboy, and shoeshine boy, but he made the start of his fortune by prospecting in the Yukon. Even then, people were out to get his money by cheating, lying and out-muscling Scrooge of his claims and money. Villians who made him cautious, resourceful and scrappy. Even then he stuck to is guns to do things fairly.

Even though he questioned himself. Why did he have to be the only one who trode down the straight and narrow. Did Goldie really love him or was she just manipulating him? In one story arc, he burns and pillages a African village for their resources and it pains him down the road to think he did it. As a result, his sisters shun him. It's why he allows Donald and his nephews to hang around. He wants to try having the family he pushed away, the one he wasn't allowed to have when he was a teenager and traveling around the world.

He's had experiences and adventures one person can only hope for. Plus he's an anti-social, so I can certainly relate!

Don Rosa's stories sure give Scrooge a wonderful back story and complement Bark's stories excellently. I wasn't expecting to like Scrooge so much, but you can't resist such a flawed character who tries his best and comes out the richest duck in the world!

I can't think of a character I can't stand. Spongebob kind of creeps me out though.

God, I'm a nerd, eh?

Godammit!

Dear Snails,

STOP HAVING SEX! You're brother and sister for Heaven's Cloud! So help me, if I have to peel any more eggs off the tank hood... I'll buy something that will eat you! Don't think I won't!

Love, Wyndigo.
