Program Notes

Before the days of television and after the introduction of the movie sound track about 1930, news events and cartoons were as important to many moviegoers as the main feature. Seeing the news on the screen was new and exciting for people who were accustomed to newspapers or radios. Although most newsreel viewers knew neither the march title nor the composer's name, millions learned to recognize the sound of the opening measures of World Events March and waited in suspense for the Movie Tone News.
