Program Notes

Since there is no reference to any particular comedy, tragedy or drama, by selecting a term which is general in the theater, the proscenium arch conveyed the idea of the mood of this music. The proscenium is the part of the theater or concert hall which is the stage in from of the curtain.

The overture has lyricism, driving rhythms with contrasts featuring percussion and still developed in a traditional way. This is an excellent original work, not dissonant, by one of our American composers, who gets an unusual sound and clarity in his works.
