Program Notes

Although the drumset player is the soloist, all parts are equally challenging and work together to build a complex tapestry of interlocking musical lines. There is a slow section sandwiched between two groove-oriented movements but they all flow seamlessly into one another. The work showcases a different character that shines throughout each movement and ends with a culmination of many themes followed by a glorious, yet unrelenting growing mass of sound.

From the Ground Up was named the second place winner from the 2012 Percussive Arts Society competition contest.
