Program Notes
This engaging composition is intended to depict the passion and loyalty to one’s nation felt when joining the military. Reflecting the numerous emotions experienced as a soldier goes off to serve, the piece begins with a fiery, tension-filled full ensemble section using strong chords in rhythmic unison. A melodic section by the clarinets creates a sense of forward movement and introduces the bold main melody. A soft, light contrasting section with legato melodic lines over staccato accompaniment moves to a busier full ensemble section.

- Program Note from score
“For the glory of my country” describes the passion and loyalty to one’s nation when a woman or man joins the military. This piece is composed to reflect many feelings and emotions as a soldier goes off to serve his or her country. The piece alternates between 3/4 and 6/8 time signatures and is great for teaching young bands how to alternate between meters.
