Program Notes
Fireflies was originally written for trombone choir for my friend Ava Ordman in celebration of 22 years of service as professor of trombone at Michigan State University. It is based loosely on material from my trombone concerto, Their Eyes Are Fireflies, which was also written for Ava. This version for band was commissioned by Irondale High School, CJ Longabaugh, director of bands, and Woodland High School, Cecilia Clark, director of bands.
